Great Product...
For the price I paid, I feel you can't beat this unit... the 5 HDMI inputs that switch into one output makes it very easy for anyone to hook up a theatre system the way it's supposed to be connected. I coupled this unit with yamaha in-ceiling speakers and a Harmony 890 RF remote, tucked this thing away in my closet with the cable box, and I now have a seamless, hidden theatre system in my den. The automatic audio adjustment tool, "Audessy", provided by this amplifier is great - you just plug in the mic, move it to your listening area, and follow the on-screen instructions to get adjusted sound custom for your room.

My only suggestion for buyers is to consider buying a very small fan (search Amazon... very cheap) if they plan to put this inside a media cabinet or closet as this unit can get very hot. Particularly if you plan to use the "Zone 2" feature of this amplifier to power speakers on a porch/patio or another room. I bought a small fan and it runs when the unit powers on and keeps it very cool.

Overall - I'm very satisfied with my purchase and would recommend this product to anyone. At less than $400, this can't be beat.

Perfect 7.2 receiver for the budget-minded enthusiast
I have been running the receiver with SVS 5.1 speaker system (STS-01 mains, SCS-01 center/surrounds and PB12-NSD sub) for 6 months. I have PS3, Xbox360, Toshiba HD-A35 HD-DVD player, Dish network HD receiver connected to the receiver via HDMI and original Xbox connected via component and toslink cables. The receiver is connected to Samsung B750 via HDMI.

In the whole time I have yet to encounter my first issue, there has been no overheating related problems (though I have not had the receiver in a closed cabinet) and no HDMI handshake issues either. The receiver was ridiculously simple to setup, assigning inputs could not have been simpler through the setup menu. The receiver gives you a nice set of options to customize listening modes depending on the source, I very rarely have to reach for the remote to switch to another listening mode. When I play Dolby TrueHD tracks, the receiver switches to Dolby TrueHD listening mode. When I switch to TV stereo broadcast, the receiver automatically switches to Neo:6 Cinema mode to keep all the speakers working. Brilliant.

While there are cheaper receivers, the features packed into this receiver are unbelievable. This receiver was my first touch with Audyssey room correction, I was surprised at the difference it made especially when listening at lower levels. I no longer need to risk awakening the wife from her slumber to get nice accurate sound by turning up the volume, Audyssey's Dynamic EQ does a good job compensating for the lower volume. I do not have a dedicated home theater room so room correction is essential, even the entry level 2EQ Audyssey packed into the 607 does a remarkable job smoothing out the frequency response. Frequency response is not spot on, but obviously much better than without room correction (measured with Radioshack SPL meter).

I have no complaints about sound quality either, the receiver sounds brilliant when I'm listening to my favorite movies and just as good when I switch over to music. Simply put this is one remarkable receiver for the price range it sits in. I have no problems recommending this receiver for anyone looking to purchase a mid-level receiver.

An excellent product! Highly recommended!
I purchased this back at Christmas time on Amazon when it was on sale for half of what it sells for now. It was an excellent price!

I needed a new A/V receiver with 3+ HDMI inputs (this has 5) and at least 5.1 channels. (This has 7.2 channels). The sound is excellent and the HDMI up-scaling works well. I hooked up an old Tivo (RCA jacks only) via the receiver's RCA jacks and then had to read the manual to figure out how to configure the receiver to up-scale the signal to the HDMI port. It's not intuitive, and the instructions are buried in the manual, but it does work! Because of the HDMI up-conversion, I have only one HDMI cord to connect from the this AV receiver to the my Flat screen TV. (and that was what I needed as I ran the HDMI cable in the wall to the flat screen TV which hangs on the wall.)

The calibration system was an added bonus and I ran the calibration tests and it told me that I had hooked up the surround speaker wires wrong. I was able to fix that within seconds and finish the calibration. Add a sub-woofer and surround speakers and we have a great home theater setup. I also got the Onkyo to work with a Harmony Remote.

All in all, this a great product. IF you need 5 HDMI ports, 7.2 surround sound. I recommend it highly as a mid-range receiver. And the price I paid made this a 5 star purchase.

ONKYO TX-SR607
I had a Sony STR reciever for several years. Finally decided to upgrade to a reciever with HDMI inputs. What a difference in the sound quality! I was blown away. Setup was easy and I love the Audissay (sp) automatic speaker adjustment. The surround sound rocks.

Great Receiver - Limitations and all
This isn't the end-all, be-all receiver. It doesn't upscale analog signals that well and it could use some better speaker posts and a removable power cord (when did everyone remove those? They used to be standard!).

That said, she does a fine job for the money. My speakers sound like they have a built-in subwoofer. Its getting me another 7-12 Hz of low end in my front speakers (ran in Large (full) mode), and bass lines in movies are a real treat. I watch so many more movies now. I can't get enough of them. Runs a little hot - I wish they'd install a fan. Heat makes me nervous... and it should you too. Heat will lessen the life of any electronic device.

I would've liked a network connection, but hey, its not a $1k receiver....

The remote is ok, but get a universal one.

The receiver has an active "clicking" sounds when I cruise the t.v. channels - like its physically switching on every channel - that is annoying. Very.

Menus are easy to user - big plus there. Not difficult at all.

I'm in 6 channel surround and its a delight. Even music is very good and I've owned some $1k+ amps. Yes, the dynamics could be better but 3 HDMI inputs and another front-side: Not too shabby. Especially considering I bought this open-box for a song. For what I paid the only review I give should be in church with other given thanks. Its a pretty full-featured receiver for the money and Onkyo is known for rating their power outage conservatively; the extra-boost to the low-end (not "muddy" bass either, I'm talking SLAM here kiddies) is absolutely delicious. I wish I could make use of the dual sub-woofer outputs, but my front speaks get so much more bass I have no desire to move to a subwoofer (except maybe for the rear speaks' LFE). I'd rather stay home than go to the movies. And what could be higher praise than that? This is a legitimate nerve-center home theater device. The others cut too many corners. If you can't afford it, save up or look for an open-box item.
