DTV/HDTV (Digital Television) Comparison Chart


Below is a comparison chart between all digital television signals and devices available today.

SDTV (Standard Definition)   EDTV (Enhanced Definition)   HDTV (High Definition)

Basic level of quality and resolution for both analog and digital signals.

 

High resolution: 1024x480 or 480p

  Extremely High Resolution:
1280x720 (720p) to 1920x1080 (1080i/1080p) pixels
Low resolution: normally 500x520 pixels or 480i   Usually requires a set top box (cable or satellite) to receive DTV channels   Requires either a set top box or a built in HDTV tuner to receive channels
