Don't Judge A Book By Its Cover
Let's start off with the petty complaints. It is so slow to load discs that you will notice that every time, and it turns on your connected Samsung television when you insert media, which is annoying when inserting a music CD. The remote is nice, until you try to use it in the dark. Someone should tell the company's engineers that kids these days turn the lights down WHEN THEY WATCH MOVIES! (Points for including the "any key" however.)

As for the meatier concerns, it is overly complicated to dub. If you are like me, then you want to save some stuff from DVR and maybe move a few old VCR tapes onto an easier to use format. But how often will you do that? Not as often as you might like, as it turns out. My programable thermostat and alarm system are simpler and more intuitive to use, which is sad considering neither manufacturer of those devices likely has near the resources that Samsung has. To top it off, in less than a year's time the DVD tray has begun to malfunction; it will not stay out when first opened, though it will eventually. Argh. I am sure it will break for good on day 366, so I have that to look forward to.

In the end I will probably chalk this up to 'failed experiment" and move on since working with their service department is almost certainly not worth the hassle. (See other reviews.) If I had it to do over, I would've just gotten the single function unit. If the recording feature is important to you, I would keep looking.

Work well - uncertain reliability
I have had one of these before. It worked well but failed after two years. These days, when most electronics last almost forever, that was a bit bothersome. But, maybe a fluke.

The worst investment of my life
I expected a produce which can do what is supposed to do...copy old video cassettes?! read all region DVD
I received a "racist" piece of junk which can copy only ''American videos" and read only "American DVD's"
Come on Samsung, you are a stupid company...the year is 2010...globalization have you heard about globalization???

The information about the product was incomplete..
Do not buy it...waste of money...

It lasted less than one year, and made fewer than 25 DVDs...
This DVD/VCR combo recorder is the worst one I've ever owned, and I've owned FIVE since 1999. The firmware upgrade/support is very nearly non-existant, and when you CAN find the support info, the site/page is all "buggy" and keeps shutting down Internet Explorer! This unit has "enlarged"/zoomed the picture to a dimension that is about 2 inches wider and taller than my TV screen, and it will not/cannot be reset for some reason. I'm a huge A/V buff, and love electronics, but this is one unit better left on the shelf when you're looking around for a DVD recorder. DON'T GET RIPPED OFF BY SAMSUNG. This product is TRASH. I'd give it ZERO stars if I could, but Amazon does not allow that.

Shoulda bought the Panasonic!!
Not sure if this is the quality of the DVD/VCR but certain DVD's that were purchased from Walmart will not play on this player. I do know they play on my Panasonic combo. I wish I had spent a liitle more money and purchased that one. It is a slow device and the quality isn't that good.
