User Submitted SNY AV3 Composite Audio Video AV Cable for Apple iPhone 1G, iPod Touch 1G, iPod Classic and iPod nano 3G, White Reviews Date: 2008-11-09 figured out why it works SOMETIMES... Well kids, I did some checking around, and this cable will work on the iPod Touch (1st gen) 2.0 upgrade and earlier, but NOT 2.1. Apparently there is a chip in Apple's own manufactured cable (which only Apple has the chip, beware of makers that SAY they have the chip) that keeps the video running on your TV. If you have 2.0 or earlier, the video plays fine in almost all cases (based on the blogs I read), but with the 2.1 upgrade you HAVE to have an Apple AV cable WITH THAT CHIP or else the video only plays for about 10-15 seconds, then blanks out. (The audio still plays.) Happened with me, and happened with every one of the 2.1 upgraded iPods. Classic scrambling/compatibility technique, but that's what happens in a free market. Apple's got every right to do so. On the many blogs I read, (YES, I have no life, okay?) people tried them on different TV sets, people reset their iPods, etc, and the only ones that worked were with the 2.0 firmware and earlier. Is that through your head, now? Good. So if you don't ever plan on upgrading your iPod, this should work fine for you. If you have a newer iPod, or a 1st gen iPod Touch or iPhone with the 2.1 upgrade, you'll waste your money just like I did. If it had cost more, I'd be giving this only one star out of spite, but when it worked for that 10-15 seconds, it actually worked remarkably well. Roughly the same quality as a VHS tape. So if it's what you want and you know it will work on your iPod's firmware, it should work just great. If you have a newer iPod or iPhone with the newest firmware, based on that, you can afford to go to Apple's site or the Apple Store and get their manufactured brand. Hope this helps clear up any confusion on why there are so many conflicting reviews... Date: 2008-10-24 outstanding value, works well with my iPod Classic 160 What a nice surprise! Not only does this A/V cable work perfectly for both audio and video with my iPod Classic 160, it takes up much less space than the Apple-branded cable, since there is no (unnecessary for me) USB power cord. And, considering the price is a fraction of what Apple charges - you can't get a better value. Bravo! Date: 2008-07-25 Cable DOES work!! This cable does work, video and audio. I own this cable and use it frequently. Apple does limit the tv out abilities of the iPhone to certain functions, but this cable maximizes those abilities as much as possible, and as much as the apple version of this cable offers. The price of this item compared to the similar apple version, is much cheaper. The cable has a nice finish on the connectors, and the rest of cable including the dock part look pretty identical to what apple offers. The quality of the audio/video was as good as once should expect from an a/v cable. Date: 2008-07-23 Does not work with iPhone 3g video Cable works on my ipod nano, but not on my iPhone 3g. I recommend to buy the original apple cable, as that also has a power supply and will keep your iphone 3g powered. Date: 2008-07-16 Great Cable for iPhone and iPod This is a great cable. Nice looking. Easy to use. High quality picture and Audio/Video output. Works perfectly with our iPhone and 3G iPod nano. We took it during our Italy trip and used it to slide show the pictures on TV. We can watch YouTube videos on Hotel TV as English programs are limited in Rome. Highly recommend.
