Date: 2008-12-24 Sony BDP-S350 Blu Ray - Almost Perfect! Just hooked this bad boy up the other night and literally within 5-10 mins(swapping audio wires from previous DVD player and connecting HDMI which is a must to TV) I was ready to throw in my first blu ray! Upon starting the player a nice welcome message is displayed and the hidden tray opens up from the front panel when disc open is touched. From the get go there is a easy setup guide to help you get things started and the menu's from there on in are very straight forward and easy to use, (think PS3 style). My only gripe and this is why its not perfect and not 5 stars is the load time. I have heard blu ray players aren't the fastest and its true. From the start of putting in the disc it takes about a minute and a half to get things going and at one point you are staring at a blank screen until a loading graphic appears... Other than that once things get going wow, not only is the picture superb, but the sound is simply ear dropping as well. I thought regular dvd's with my surround sound was nice, now its just over powering and crystal clear (like right out of the movie theatre). This is why an hdmi cable is a must! It really is the whole package now !!! Lastly some newer blu rays won't play if your unit isn't updated with the latest firmware. Did mine this morning by hooking it up with my Xbox 360 Ethernet cable and within 5 mins after selecting update in the main menu i had the newest firmware and am able to use BD-Live as well as watch newer blu rays that have just been released (Horton, Wall-E etc) Overall this sleek, very thin yet powerful blu ray player is a winner in my book, and aside from the loading time it has made me want to start buying movies all over again. I would recommend this player to anyone from beginner to expert! Date: 2008-12-23 Excellent player by Sony This is an excellent unit from Sony. The load time is improved from previous madels. The picture is outstanding but you would expect that from any BR player. The set up was easy and the small size is great. I recommend this unit. Date: 2008-12-22 First Bluray and it rocks It is a nice product and alot of nice features to play with. The quallity of the output is very good and I would recommend this product to anyone. Date: 2008-12-22 Sony BluRay Player So far so good, the setup took a while and the player needs to warm up before you can do anything so for an impatient person it may not be the best idea. Date: 2008-12-22 Sony BDP-S350 Great picture but slow to load The player works well with a few things I find annoying. The picture quality is always going to be dependent on multiple variables (Television, Cables, etc.) but I find it to be very impressive on my current configuration. As it seems with all newer video players whether it is a blu-ray or DVD burner, it takes awhile to load. The player also does not seem to keep your place on the DVD about 65% of the blu-ray discs when the movie is stopped and restarted. I am not sure if this is due to the creation of the particular blu-ray or a limitation of the hardware. I do like the fact you can hook up to the internet for firmware (software) updates to keep features current. It is a nice player and can be found on Amazon much cheaper than in the stores. I would recommend it to a friend.
