Onkyo TX-SR606
For the money, this receiver is great.
But the video upconverting is not very clean.
I might have spent more money on the TX-SR805 unit if I had known about the video upconverting quality issues on the 606 that I have seen and read about from other reviewers.....
Otherwise I have no other complaints about this unit.

Continuing with Onkyo....
This unit replaces a TX-SR701 that I've had for about six years. That unit lost a solenoid. I bought this one to replace it and am pleased for the upgrade in the way it handles HDMI (which the other one did not). The sound is very clean. I have had ES series Sony and higher-end Yamaha, but find this unit to be a terrific value and with a sound that is actually more pleasing than the others. I am using the unit with high-end Paradigm speakers and couldn't be more pleased. I've owned 'em all but Onkyo is the only one I've bought twice in a row !!

PS: This unit is actually a step down in the Onkyo heirarchy, but I could not tell from its performance...at all.

Awesome sound. Works flawlessly with HDMI.
Hooked up to a XBOX 360, Digital Cable and BluRay DVD. All HDMI at 720p, and all are working/switching perfectly. No humming or other line noise. Have the receiver running out to a Gefen splitter and sending signal to both a Toshiba HDTV and a Mitsubishi projector. Works great and the sound is unbelievable. MUCH better than my Yamaha receiver, which was very good in and of itself. Highly recommend.

Disappointed...
I really looked forward to receiving this Onkyo model having had good luck with two other Onkyo units in the past. Unfortunately, when it arrived and was hooked up, I found the left rear speaker output had no signal! Amazon, as always, has been good to repond to problems and replaced unit right away. I am currently waiting for the replacement and will give an update later. I am, however, disappointed with Onkyo's quality slipping as time goes on and I feel that this will probably be my last product from them. Sad, but we'll see how the replacement works out.

Buzz/Hum Problem was Dealbreaker
I bought this receiver because of the impressive feature set and positive reviews. It is an attractive unit, and setup was very easy. The on-screen menus are very intuitive. As other reviews have mentioned, it does run very hot.

I really wanted to keep this unit, but there is definitely a buzz/hum issue when using the HDMI connections. When there is a low signal or no signal going to the surround speakers, there is a very audible tone that constantly feeds through the speakers. Higher volumes can drown it out, but if you are listening in a quiet environment, then hum will definitely distract you.

I have returned the unit for this reason.
