It's a great TV. However......
Panasonic Viera TH-50PX80U
Has anyone who owns this TV experienced any random electrical "popping" sounds coming from the back of the TV? I've had this TV for about 7 months now and it has always made these sounds. I always hoped they would eventually go away but they aren't. The most frequent ones are faint but about once an hour or so a loud one occurs that can be quite startling. I verified that these sounds are not coming from the speakers by turning them off. They happen whether the TV is plugged into a Monster power conditioner or directly into the wall outlet. Can anyone give me some advice?
Aside from this problem though, this is a great TV with an amazing picture and great sound. I don't want to scare off any potential buyers of this TV. My problem is most likely with my particular TV. Maybe it was defective from day one.
I do recommend this TV and it's at a very low price right now here on Amazon, $1000. I paid a lot more for it 7 months ago. So if you buy it and have a problem with it, deal with it immediately and you can't go wrong. I believe Amazon has a 30 day return policy. Thanks for reading.

Plasma: Still A Contender
For several months I spent much time doing research on HDTV's... and I have found that:

*Plasmas offer a natural, vivid color over LCD for less the price
*Panasonic and Pioneer are the leaders in plasma technology
*Plasmas have a much wider viewing angle, meaning you can sit anywhere in the room for the "ultimate viewing experience"
*As for 1080p, and 720p, it all really depends on two things. How big is the TV and how far away will you be from it? From what I've seen and heard, you cannot really discern the difference viewing from 6-8 feet away on a 50 inch TV or less. I have fooled friends and family by telling them it was 1080p... and they believed me without hesitation.
*Panasonic offers great values for great plasmas. They boast a 100,000 hour lifespan for their TV's... more than enough time until a newer model is sought after
*This particular one (TH-50PX80U) looks wonderful with any material. I use it most for Blu-ray, HD Televison, and Xbox 360. At 720p, you can still fill the frame with standard DVD's and it looks fine. For the price, you will be shocked at the clarity and color of this TV. Sports look stunning!
* Do your own research and you will find that plasma technology has improved vastly in recent years and the quality does compete with LCD displays.

Enjoy!

PS: If buying online, try and stick with Amazon, as other merchants may have unclear communication. I find Amazon ships much quicker in general and their service is world class.

Review of Panasonic 50" Viera Plasma TV
Had this TV for a week now and am extremely pleased with it. It was $300.00 cheaper than at our local Walmart and this was delivered. I would highly recommend it to anyone!

Panasonic Plasma
This picture on the 720p Panasonic 50" is incredible. I got it for my dad whom is elderly. You'd have thought he got new vision, he can see colors, and textures that he comments about constantly. (turf on football games, people's eye colors). Lot of bang for under a grand. Amazon got it to his remote cabin in the mountains of New Mexico so easy.
