It's pretty good.
I guess it's okay. Pictures don't seem to fit the screen very well. I think this whole flat screen phenomenon may be a lot of hype and illusion.

Update: Okay, now that I've had it a few months (and someone directed me to the high-definition channels) it's better. In fact it's good. I would recommend this television.

Fabulous TV
I just bought this as my first HDTV and I must say I am throughly impressed. It is a joy to watch, is easy to setup, and has the most lifelike picture. It looks great with SDTV as well, but really pops with a Bluray player. I highly recommend this TV.

AWESOME!
I researched about every Plasma and LCD televion out there and I finally went with the Panasonic Viera TH-42PZ85U 42". I definitely made the right choice! The picture is incredible especially on channels and shows that are broadcast in HD. You don't have to be right in front of the TV to get a great view. The quality is good from almost every angle. For our house the size is perfect. The 1080P is a must! I went with plasma on the advice of an engineering friend who installs home theatre systems on the side. He said it will last longer. His only warning was to not leave the television on CNN all day long to avoid burn in. (The CNN logo is always up in the same place.) Of course there are other televisions he would recommend if I had wads of money to spend! But for our budget we got the best out there!

HDTV at its best
I had a two year old Hi def Plasma Panny and replaced it with the Viera. I loved the old one and in terms of picture quality, contrast and color saturation this one has it beat. Even standard def channels show good clarity and color. The high def channel stuff is amazing. Plasma is definately the way to go for me. On to the pros and cons.

Pros- The picture quality. Contrast, definition, color saturation are all very good. The colors are very accurate. Menu is easy navigate. Plenty of connection for all sorts of A/V equipment. As plasmas go, this one is thin and light. Great picture even at off center viewing. Not much glare in bright sunlight. Antiglare coating seems reasonably effective. Sound is good without external speakers.

Cons- Panasonic moved the connections and controls from true front mount to side mount. Why? Now I have to hunt along the side of the unit for controls to vol. when I don't have the remote handy and if I want to plug a video cam into it I have to hunt the side to get the right jack. A swivel base would be nice. They provide it on the higher end models why not this one too?

Overall, I am very pleased with my set and my purchase through Amazon. It exceeded my expectations. Delivery through Amazon purchase was great. The unit arrived promptly and delivery person took the time to unpack and inspect the unit. Terrific product, terrific service. No complaints.
