Date: 2008-01-18 Great TV, Fast Shipping! First off I received the TV 5 days before the estimated delivery date! The TV works great and has an excellent picture. I was a little worried about the viewing angle but it is not a problem at all. TV starts up quick and how VERY rich blacks. The best part is I never have to worry about the bulb going out. The only thing is when I use remotes other than the manufacturer's to change the input it takes a whole min to remove the Input HUD. Using the Samsung remote you can change the input and press Enter to make the HUD go away. A very minor problem for such a great price though! Date: 2008-01-15 Can't pull myself away from it! I purchased this set for a family XMas gift. Problem is, I won't let go of the remote long enough to let anyone else use it. Oh well, I have the set connected to a Dish500 HD-DVR and the HD channels look great. My xbox 360 is connected to a pc component port. I also have my Alienware laptop connected to the HDMI3 port. With a wireless keyboard and mouse, I can sit on the couch and surf the net. One small problem with the laptop connection. For some reason the edges are clipped. This is a quite common occurance when using any TV for a pc monitor. The expanation I found on the web said it had something to do with TV's wanting to overscan a signal to fill the screen. Its a particularily annoying quirk as many control buttons are on the window edges. If anyone knows of a fix, please post it. One final comment, my set arrived slightly damaged. There was a small defect on the right hand side of the screen. I called Amazon and spoke to customer service for only a few minutes to record the return. Amazon replaced it within a week. The shipping company came to the door, brought a new set and took the original away. It was as easy as it could possibly be. I only add this comment to give Amazon the credit they deserve and to allay the fear of others in buying such a large item online. It couldn't have been an easier exchange even if I had bought it a mile from my house. Thanks Amazon! Date: 2008-01-13 Amazing Money SAVER tip here: The Clear QAM tuner is really great, I just plugged in my basic cable and sure enough, all the local channels are there in HD and some more goodies are just sitting there on the open cable line. Do some research on "clear QAM" on google and you'll see what I mean, you may not need to call your cable company and "upgrade" your cable package to get HD, make sure to try scanning all the channels (use auto program) first before you sign up for an HD package and pay bigger bucks. If you also want to record this free HD, check out "eye TV" they make an HD recorder where you don't have to pay a monthly fee to record clear QAM HD signals - I haven't tried it but it looks interesting. Date: 2008-01-11 Excellent and absolutely stunning TV I bought this TV in early November and thought it would be a good idea to try out this set for a couple months before posting my thoughts on it. I will try to be as brief as possible and separate this review into pros and cons. Pros: Cosmetically, this TV is super sexy. The glossy piano bezel black looks very nice, hidden speakers, and the glowing Samsung jewel just looks cool. I also like the thin frame around the display very much. Picture quality is outstanding and the colors really jump out at you, especially on the default "Dynamic" picture mode setting. Plenty of inputs -- the 3 HDMI inputs is a definite plus. All of my video game systems work fantastic on this display. The Wii, GameCube, PS2, and N64 all look and play great. I sit about 10 feet away from this TV for both playing games and watching TV/movies. I also hook up my laptop to this TV via the VGA in (outputting my laptop at 1920x1080 resolution) and it works perfectly. Cons: There is a noticable "blue halo effect" (also known as the "smudge effect" or "hot spots"), but it does not really bother me enough to go to the effort of getting it replaced. Samsung will fix this for free under your one year warranty period if you so desire. There is also a slight rainbow effect. Both the halo effect and rainbow effect are only noticeable in dark scenes. Finally, there are some uniformity issues. Certain parts of the screen seem to be darker or brighter depending on where your eyes are looking directly across from if you are standing close to the TV, but it is not a big deal if you view the TV from a standard viewing distance (7 to 12 feet away). This TV matches perfectly with the stand from Pinnacle Design that is made for Samsung DLP TVs. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase and if I could do it over again, I probably would have bought the 61" version for only $200-300 more (definitely worth it). Edit: I just wanted to update this review with one piece of information I forgot to include the first time around - shipping. I ordered the TV on a Thursday and it was all setup and sitting on my living room by Tuesday at noon. Amazon used a carrier called Eagle Delivery to deliver my TV. The TV came a week sooner than the expected delivery date shown on my Amazon online invoice. Eagle gave me a call the night before my TV was to be delivered, so I was pleasantly surprised when I received the phone call. They setup a time with me for the delivery and when the delivery man came, he called my cell phone and was in and out of my home with no problems. He unpacked the TV and turned it on to make sure it was working. He also offered to take all the packaging away for me. So all in all, I was very pleased with the service from Eagle and the ease of ordering my TV through Amazon. For all of you who are hesitant about buying things online, especially something as big and expensive as this TV, don't be. Amazon and Eagle did a great job and they exceeded my expectations. It was actually more convenient to order this TV online since the TV was literally moved into and setup in my living room for me! Date: 2008-01-08 Samsung Wins Again Samsung has always led in the DLP field and this television does not disappoint. The screen is huge and the picture is incredible. There are tons of menu options to tweak your picture until you're satisfied. I have an HD Cable Box running through HDMI, and Xbox 360 running through the PC input, and a Wii running through component. The cable and 360 are absolutely stunning. Watching Planet Earth in 1080p on this set will knock your socks off. My favorite feature of this set is the fact that all of the inputs are on the side and very easy to reach and there are a ton of them. 3 HDMI, 2 Component, 2 Composite, VGA, and an optical audio out. The only downside of having the inputs on the side is that they are difficult to hide and the way our living room is set up makes them clearly visible. This is my second Samsung HDTV and I'm sure that my third (which I don't plan on getting any time soon) will be too.
