green behind the ears
I have looked high and low on the web for a good new TV. The last one I had fell off it's rack from 5 feet and landed onto the floor just before the 4th Quarter of a tied game. Oh man.

Guess what it was still working and weighs about 140 lbs. It actually dented the floor and only cracked the case of the tv. I was actually able to finish the game while looking down at the screen from my couch. I got some bailing wire and epoxy and lifted it back into it's rack with 3 other guys. The TVwas good for another 2 years of light TV watching. It completely died this evening which is why I am here looking for something new in my life.

anyway I am sure this review is most unuseful to most of you trying to figure out the best tv.

My recommendation is go on down to the local stores and test drive a few. Then come back to Amazon
I really like this TV cuz everyone else that really knows something says it is.and it has 5 stars.

Actually ,,,,, don't buy this one cuz I am planning to tomorrow in the morning.

I just have to go knock a wall out of my TV room so I can fit it in.

Hows that for totally useful information David in Santa Fe dw@stare.com

Best TV I've seen...
I bought this a few months ago when it came out to upgrade an older DLP set (gave away). The difference in this set and the similar (excellent) HL-S6187W can be quite noticeable, especially using Blu-Ray with HQV (see BD-P1200). Personally, I prefer DLPs because I don't want/need to wall-mount and they have much higher contrast ratio (and picture/screen durability) than LCD sets (and plasmas are not native 1080p just yet...Hitachi has the first in Japan at time of writing). Samsung paid special attention to the basics of DLP picture quality (five color wheel, 14400 RPM) as well as what seems to be unmatched image processing. The presets are a bit overdone (as all manufacturers do) but using either your eye or, if you're like me, professional calibration, it's easy to change the controls to get "perfection" for even the pickiest. Design is beautiful, and compatibility with Blu-Ray players (especially the new BDP-1200...see my review on this and the 1000) as well as HD-DVD (e.g., latest Toshiba) is simply unmatched...I haven't seen a TV with as good a picture, period. Unlike Samsung's competing LED-based model, picture uniformity is also "as good as it gets." (BTW, I don't use its matching stand, its way too small for my main components...but can fit most receivers & other video boxes so check it out, just make sure to measure!)

My personal experience with The Samsung HL-S6188W is an excellent one thus far for a DLP with a razor sharp picture with HD sources. I highly recommend this DLP TV.

Very, very sparkly
I bought this set to replace a 50" Panasonic. Wow - the picture is phenomenal. Video games, HD DVDs, Blue ray DVDs and HD video are all beautifully presented.

It comes with a very generous number and variety of inputs. Set up was easy.

The set is a great part of any home theatre. Very reasonably priced as well. I highly recommend this television.

Sharpest picture of them all
I have looked at Sony, Toshiba and Panasonic for a big screen tv. Samsung has them beat. The HL-S6188W,61" DLP HDTV by Samsung is outstanding! The picture is clear and sharp. I previously had a 56" Magnavox for about 16 years and it finally kicked the bucket. With some sadness, it finally got junked. So my search was on for that perfect picture and I found it in this tv. This tv has been a marvelous addition to the family room. My friends marvel at how clear the screen is.
