Date: 2006-05-18 Good HDTV for the price I had this for about nine months now and it is absolutely fabulous. I recommand this if you are looking for a budget HDTV and space is not a problem for you. Date: 2006-05-10 ***Excellent HDTV for the Money!*** I picked the KDF-E50A10 after comparing it to both Toshiba and Samsung DLP's. The Toshiba DLP's have a bad history with premature bulb burnout and long wait times for replacement. I do not want to deal with that! The Samsung DLP's are great too, but I thought the Sony 3LCD technology expanded the viewable area (side to side) and improved on video game playability. I played an XBOX 360 on a friend's 2nd generation Samsung DLP and it was plagued by a slight timing delay. The pricing for the Sony was great too! I researched prices on www.pricegrabber.com and purchased from Abes of Maine out of New York; everything went great with them. The Sony was easy to set-up and turned on without a hitch. I was a little disappointed that it only had one HDMI input, but this could easily be solved by purchasing a high-quality HDMI switcher available at www.monoprice.com. I will be buying one of these in the near future so I can easily add other HDMI devices. For now, I have my upscaling DVD player (Denon S-301) hooked up to the HDMI and my Hi-Def Motorola cable box hooked up via component video. They both look outstanding on this television! Inherent in LCD displays is the "screen door effect" which is only visible if you sit really close to the TV. I don't know why somebody would buy a big screen TV and sit 3-feet away, but my couch is about 7-feet away and it looks GREAT. This television requires a bit of tweaking to look its best. It comes preset from the factory at a "vivid" setting, which is to make it look brighter while on display at a store. When you set it up be sure to change the settings to best suite you viewing environment. There are diagnostic DVD's available along with a great device called SpyderTV to help you tweak it to perfection. I really like this television and am happy with my purchase decision. Try it! Date: 2006-04-30 Love it! We loved this tv at a friends house and knew we wanted it when our old tv died. My concern, even as a long-time customer of Amazon.com, was whether we should order something of this size and price. Best Buy told us they would have it in stock in 2 weeks. So on 4-18 we ordered from Amazon, and even though the projected delivery was 5-16, it arrived only a week later and in excellent condition. The delivery service was prompt and professional. Our final price after shipping, was over $300 LESS than the same model at Best Buy and Sears before shipping and tax. We are very happy with the tv and for anyone concerned about ordering from a website (and we would only order from here), our experience was exceptional. Date: 2006-04-07 Great TV, especially for the Price I have had this TV for about a month now. I'm not gonna reiterate what most of the others have said, but maybe a few things. The TV picture and sound is excellent. The color is out of whack out of the box, but after fixing and tweaking it is quite nice. The cool part is that you can have each input set to their own specifications (up to three different ones for each input). Now keep in mind, regualar cable (not HD or satelite) will not look so great, just like on ALL Tv's, whether it be plasma or conventional or whatever, because it's not really digital. Now the HD picture is simply amazing, and the same goes for DVD's. I don't have satellite hooked up, but I have seen it on this TV and it looks far better than cable. OS keep that in mind. You should definitely sit at least 7 feet away to get the best effect from it...I recommend about 8 - 9 feet. The viewing angle is more than adequate. Sometimes I sit on the ground to play games, and it still looks almost the same as right in the center. And viewing from the sides is just fine, until you go way out. So overall do not worry about the color, it can be adjusted and the viewing angle is more than efficient. And when it comes to the clarity and such with cable, just remember everything will be HD soon anyways, so this will be a perfect fit! Overall this is a great TV especially for the price! Date: 2006-03-27 Pleasure to Watch I purchased this TV along with a Samsung HD-850 up-conversion DVD player. Got everything home and hooked up to the surround sound..Connected the DVD player through the HDMI port and popped in Star Wars Phantom Menace!! After watching a 52 inch CRT projection TV for 10 years, this setup really makes an impression on you!! After spending a couple of months reading up on the new technologies, I was about sold on DLP...But after seeing different brands, both LCD and DLP, side by side, they both were good yet both had their drawbacks. But when I saw the Sony LCD versus other brands, the Sony stood a head taller than anything else in its price range. Yes, there is some screendoor effect ocassionally which is why I only gave it 4 stars, but its no worse than the rainbow effect of the DLP's. With DVD's through the HDMI port, the screendoor effect is virtually unnoticeable. And it's so close to HD with newer DVD's it's unreal!! For the price, this TV is as good as any...I just chose the one that looked the best to me...and in this case, the Sony won hands down!! * Price is subject to change. |
