Date: 2006-11-28 Good Price, Not So Good TV I got this TV at Best Buy on Black Friday for $480. It was a great deal, but I was still ultimately disappointed when I got home and tested it out. The picture was very washed out, even for the advertised 1000:1 contrast ratio (the same ration as most cheaper LCD TVs). The blacks were hardly black at all, and the TV had very few setup options, including only two different picture modes: widescreen or standard. When in widescreen mode, the picture is stretched if not coming from a widescreen source, which is to be expected, and in standard mode it would squeeze the image if not from a standard source. But it lacks an option for original aspect ratio (which is essential for DVDs still in theater-wide 2.35:1 aspect), nor did it contain an option to watch standard sources with the top and bottom clipped off. Of course, if you are just looking for a 32" flat-panel TV, this certainly gets the job done. Just don't expect it to awe anyone. Date: 2006-05-31 Wow!! What a TV! This is my first review to write for Amazon, but I liked this TV so much I thought I should share my experience. I ordered the TV via Amazon and have had it for nearly 4 months. I initially set a budget of $1000 to purchase a new HD-Ready TV. After searching around I had decided on a Toshiba 30" CRT but then saw this model. I was a little skeptical at the price ($999 for 32" LCD?!?), but went ahead and took the plunge. Boy was I glad I did. This TV is awesome. HD broadcasts are amazing! SD is acceptable, about on par with a regular CRT TV. DVD's look pretty sweet using my $50 Philips player. The speakers are ok, but you really should use a home theater system to get the most out of this TV. PC hook up is very easy, too. I hook up my 12" Powerbook and play slideshows of vacations and family events, they all look great. Controller is also easy to use and the menu is very user friendly. My only beef is that it doesn't have an HDMI port, however this is easily fixed by using a HDMI-DVI adapter. Other than that, I have not had one single problem with this TV. I couldn't be happier with this TV and it was definately money well spent. *UPDATE* I have had this TV for over a year now and it sill looks great and impresses me everytime I watch it. We've hooked up my brother's Xbox 360 and it's unreal; so awesome. Even as more and more people are getting flat panel TV's, I still get compliments on how great the picture is on this one. I couldn't be happier! Date: 2006-03-17 Good for the money I received this set about a month ago. Manual is useless, not helpful or educational. Simple to install, if you are familiar with audio/video jargon. Picture is awesome in HD, unfortunately, there are not many channels that transmit in HD. Watching a basketball game on a regular channel is awfull, worse than on a regular TV. Found two dead pixels stuck on white, fortunately, not noticeable when viewing at normal distance. On some channels, getting a white light on the top edge of screen when screen backdrop is black - gets annoying. One time the TV froze up. I could not turn it off, even with the manual off button located at the side of the unit. Had to pull the plug. Not sure if it was the TV or HD cable box that caused this. Overall, so far I am quite happy with this unit, but there are annoyances and room for improvement. Date: 2006-03-17 Except for 1 small problem, it's a great TV at a great price! I received this TV yesterday to replace a Maxent LCD TV and I have say that the image quality is amazing. The size of the screen is just right for the living room of my apartment. I have separate speakers so I cannot comment on the sound. But picture quality is better than my Maxent by a big margin. Image is brighter and has a lot more definition. Menu is also easy to use. I found 3 stuck pixels on the screen, but from 5 feet away, they have absolutely no impact on the picture quality. Date: 2006-03-11 It works But... if it breaks, you have two locations to send it to under warranty. Keep your box or UPS charges $50 to pack it and depending on your proximity to the west or east coast service centers...$128 bucks to ship. Obviously I am eating sour grapes over the loss of use of my set whilst it is up in New York getting its powersupply replaced. Having said that. I love the picture. Audio is good, but the remote control connection is absolutely appauling. I feel like Harry Potter waiving his wand trying to get the channel to change. Would I buy again...Unfortunately no. Look for local warranty service when you are choosing a brand. Perhaps if Westinghouse had more than two facilities in the whole blessed country, I might speak better of them. * Price is subject to change. |
