cant be fixed !!!
i bought this tv with a extended warranty from Conns in Conroe Tx. had vertical lines because of the wide screen.it looks bad on black screens it has a updated driver (transformer) conns put it in. problem is better but still there. conns will not replace it unless phillips will say it is a design flaw and phillips only will say it is a abnormality! Conns supose to replace it with another of equal value.or refurbished. this problem cant be fixed. and Conns warranty has too many things in it to cover them and not me. worthless!!!! phillips have never herd of customer service. let the buyer beware of extended warranty companies and of any phillips product.

Terrible TV from Philips
I purchased a 'renewed' television from Philips Outlet. The purchase came with a 90 day warranty. Shortly after one month, the television began spontaneously turning off. I took the unit to an authorized repair shop as Philips directed. After 45 days and many phone calls, the repair shop returned the television and said it was fixed; however, when I brought the TV home, it was not fixed and I experienced the same problems. I contacted Philips and the repair shop immediately. Following another month of the repair shop waiting on Philips for direction (wondering if they should attempt a second repair or replace the unit) and many more phone calls, I was recently told by Philips that my warranty had expired and they would no longer fix the problem (even though the problem that occurred when it was under warranty was never fixed).

When the TV works, it's nice. But I want to warn others about Philips customer service. I'll never buy from Philips again...

Nice, but has its problems.
I bought this tv over a year ago for $800. The pictures is nice and the only picture problems I have is because I have basic cable. DVD picture is definitely nice. I haven't had any major visual problems. I only have two problems I would like to add to all these others:

1. TV has a long start up, which Philips considers normal (under 20 sec). I believe it usually at least takes five seconds to start up.

2. If you accidently hit the off button on the remote and try to turn the TV back on quickly, the TV locks up and will stay in "half on" state. The green light is on, but dim and there is no picture. To get the TV out of this state you have to get up and unplug the TV and plug it back in. This sucks since we have a big armoire that we have to move a bit to reach the plug.

Ultimate Value
I have had my unit for a week, and so far it's been even better than I expected.

I was afraid non-digital or non-hd pictures would not be good - I was totally wrong. I'd heard that HDTV sets do not display non-HD channels well. This unit displays analog channels as well as my 27" JVC does. As long as you switch to 4:3 aspect ratio, analog signals are as crisp and clean as you can hope for. Digital is a step up.

DVD's look great through the S-Video connection and even better through composite cables.

There are lots of ways to tweak the visual and audio settings. They give you several preset modes for each, and you can custom configure the settings exactly the way you want them. I am happy with the presets, and they are easy to select.

Can't wait to switch my service to an HD signal. Not sure whether to go with digital cable or a dish. For now, I an content getting crystal clear DVD pictures on the set, and very good analog TV.

Oh, and games also look great.

If you buy this set you will not be disappointed. It will carry me for a couple years until plasmas and LCDs are reasonable. Then I'll move this unit to the master bedroom and buy the latest flat panel TV for the family room (probably in 2007).

If there was a way to give this zero stars, I would!
No, folks, it isn't you, it's the set! I've had mine a little over three months and it's in a closet. One day it worked, a few hours later it didn't. Philips is bad in the response catagory, and Best Buy bows out after 14 days ...

I think Philips needs to get concerned about a class-action on this lemon! I'll never buy another Philips-anything, and I'll never buy from BB again either.
