Panasonic DMP-BD85 comparison
When Sony won the HD contest with Toshiba I instantly bought a Sony BD player, no WiFi at that time. After a year and a half it quit. I didn't want to have it repaired. I then bought a Samsung BD-C6500 as it had builtin WiFi. This feature failed to remember the router code meaning that I had to reprogram it every time I wanted to watch a Netflix movie. It also would not resume playing a DVD if it were shut off part way through the movie. After 2 1/2 months of frustration I contacted Amazon and they were more than understanding. They allowed me to either replace it or return it for a refund. I opted for the return of nearly 100%.
As a replacement, I bought a Panasonic DMP-BD85 that does it all perfectly. After the first simple setup the WiFi streaming works flawlessly, every time. And, if I press Stop part way through the movie and then turn it Off, the next time I turn it ON I get the message asking if I want to resume the movie where I left it. Clicking Yes instantly begins the movie where I left it.

Fan Effing Tastic! Panasonic has it all.

Great blu-ray player!
This is a great Blu-ray player. It has the Netflix streaming, and other network features that I wanted. Good price, excellent brand and I would recommend it to anyone.

Like the comcast turtle...
If you don't mind loading your blu ray, then waiting ten minutes for it to start, then you'll be fine with this player. If you actually want to start watching a movie when you load it, I would suggest buying the new Sony Blue Ray player. We did and we're now happy. If you need to exit out of the movie and then need to reload it... well I hope you don't minding waiting a few more minutes.
Netflix feed was blurry.
Net menu wasn't impressive.

Near perfect design for 2010 - offers internet playback for netflix
Prior to this model, the viera system in 2009 series players could not generate a unique serial number. Netflix's reaction to this was to not send netflix on demand to these players since their 6 display limit could not be enforced as all pre 2010 units didn't have a unique ID which could be tracked.

Be sure to get the most recent firmware upgrade from panasonic before use. You can burn a firmware disc from your pc and drop it in if you don't have your network link up yet.

On the back is a dedicated usb port for their 802.11 unit. It manages priorities to try and keep an uninterrupted stream, but lacks 5.8 ghz capability. Compared to a hardwired link it is good for music but can suffer at high speed video.

Those are the most significant changes from the 60, 80 and 605 units of 2009. With the firmware upgrade you can get a unique id to punch into netflix and stream movies on demand. They have also relocated the viera key on the remote for what it is worth and dimmed the blue light to be less disturbing in open rack systems. Avchd sd playback remains the same as 2009 players.

Amazon's pricepoint has been running about $25 below the retail chains on this model making it an overall excellent buy for those entering the bluray field or buying a new generation model that has futureproofing bluray lacked in the early adopter days.

Splendid Quality
This is, by far, the best Blu Ray disc ever. It's a lot less glitchy than Sony and Samsung's Blu-Ray disc players. Setup was also extremely easy. Just hook it up and you're good to go.
