Date: 2010-08-21 One of the best I can't say enough good things about this bluray player. I bought it as a second Netflix bluray player so I will compare this one to the Insignia bluray player, which is Best Buy's house brand. Pros: 1. The LG is very fast loading for both blurays and DVD's. Both types of disc look stunning on this player. I have never seen DVD's look this good on any other player. The Insignia doesn't even come close in loading times and DVD's don't look as sharp. 2. The LG remote is almost perfect. You can hold it to read what each button does and at the same time push each button and the player will respond. You can press info while a disc is playing and screens will pop up giving you extensive disc info similar to IMDB. The Insignia remote is the worst remote I have ever used. The player will not respond unless you aim the remote down towards the floor. Even then you have to press each button more then once. There is no disc info. 3. The Netflix streaming on the LG is outstanding. The HD content is excellent and equals the best HD channels on my cable system. The display has a timer for Netflix streaming so you can tell where you are in the movie without stopping or pausing. The Insignia's Netflix streaming is just fair. The HD content is OK but is below the HD channels on my cable system. The display only says NETFLIX during streaming - no timer. 4. The LG has many online partners and recently added MLB and Napster to the lineup. You can listen to Pandora, watch YouTube and when you link the player to Vulu you get a $5.99 credit towards movie rentals. Insignia has just Pandora in addition to Netflix. Cons: 1. The display on the LG is very dim. Just a minor complaint though. 2. The USB port is in the front behind a drop down door so you can't leave a flash drive in it all the time. That's about it. Don't hesitate to buy this player if you want the best Netflix experience. Date: 2010-08-20 Hope you have 20/20 vision I have an LG BD370 DVD player and I thought I would upgrade to the latest greatest model. Well after hooking it up and watching a movie, I don't see much difference. In fact, I like the older model much better. The BD550 display window is about half the size of the BD350, which makes it next to impossible to read from any distance. The BD370 has large circular control in the middle which glows red for regular DVD's and Blue for Blue Ray DVD's. The user interface is improved for Netflix etc., but it's the same as my LG LED TV. In short, I think I'll go back to the old model and put the new one in the spare bedroom. Date: 2010-08-17 Quick to like, quick to break This was very easy to get up and running. Instant picture quality using a wired internet connection was good, despite slow speeds. Played standard quality dvds well. However, the player did not work long enough for me to purchase and view a blu ray disc, so I cannot comment. The player stopped playing all standard dvds. It returned a disc read error and spit them out. Additionally, the player feels very fragile. It is nice and light, but the plastic feels very breakable. The LG return center so far has been helpful. I will update my review if/when they fix the player. Date: 2010-08-17 Love It The only complaint I can make is that it is not WiFi. Other than that its the best. Make sure you update the firmware first thing. Date: 2010-08-15 POOR CUSTOMER SUPPORT If you have a NEW flat screen tv, modem and router perhaps this product will perform as promised and you won't need any tech support. If you have a tv which uses a coaxial cable and an ethernet line and also use your cable access for other media such as a PC or airport well you may need an expert in setting up a digital network because the people at LG were clueless and my ISP will only provide support as far as the modem. Of course I would have never contacted Comcast if the LG support people hadn't passed the buck and said my router had ports that weren't open and that my ISP would need to open them - all just BS. I spent a week researching the correct way to configure my system online and a great amount of time speaking to people at LG... they were CLUELESS and blamed it on my router. Fortunately my neighbor is a digital network specialist for major corporation. He came over and spent a few hours helping me set up this "finicky" LG box. Don't buy it if you need any help beyond plugging the thing in. I've read ROKU has terrible customer support as well, but if the box works it is supposed to be simple to configure. * Price is subject to change. |
