worst bluray ever
within two months of purchasing this bluray, the video began turning off. I would eject, power down, reinsert, and sometimes it would play fine for awhile. But this occurred with every type of DVD, store-bought, home-made, whether it was movies or a tv show. I tried another HDMI cable, and a software download. Eventually it finally stopped putting out video completely, and since it was out of warranty, I could not return it. I threw it away in disgust. Then I decided to put my faith in LG again, and got another model, the BD550. Everything was perfect for about 10 days, then BAM, video problems again. The screen would get a heavy pink overtone, then cut out. I downloaded an update, worked ok for a few days, then began the same thing. I tried using the composite video cable, and sure enough, video was working fine there; it was only the HDMI output. However, even after I would switch over, the bluray would freeze on a black screen for a few seconds, then resume normal operations. It would do this many times in a row. I cannot get through a short 23 minute TV show without at least a half dozen "blinkouts". and of course, since its been past the 90 manufacturer warranty, nothing can be done about it that won't cost me labor. DO NOT EVER BUY BLURAY AGAIN!!!

Needed Repair within 8 months after limited use
I had to end this player in for service for service after owning it for just 8 months. Of course my 90-day labor warantee had expired and it cost my $69 to have the player serviced by LG. If I had it serviced independently I would have voided the remaining 4 months of the equipment warranty. The return process was a pain and i have yet to receive this back. I sent it via the prepaid fed-ex slip they e-mailed me and it took almost a week to get back to LG and it is now still there.

I think the quality is good, but if it will only work for 8 months then cost your $69 more to fix it, you lose the savings. There are more reliable players out there.

Locks up frequently
I found this player VERY temperamental. It would lock up about 40-50% of the time on both BRs and DVDs. By lock up I mean stop dead in its tracks not allowing the disc to be ejected. This ALWAYS required unplugging the player in order to allow the disc to be ejected. I have tested at least 7 discs that have locked up the LG player but played on my Sony BR player with no problems. I have old DVDs from 10 years ago that play fine and brand new BRs that will not even load on this player (though they all play fine on my Sony machine). I can only infer from this, that problem is with the LG player.

On the good side I really like the remote control for this unit. When a disc does play the remote is very user friendly.

My advice: DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT. Personally, I will never buy another LG player no matter how cheap compared to the competition.

Spending $100 should last at least a year
I purchased the LG BD270 blu ray dvd player on November 25, 2009, from Amazon. Total cost was $99.99. Approximately one week ago (mid June 2010), the dvd player stopped working. It would not recognize any DVD or blu ray disc that I placed inside it. An error message would appear and the player would eject the disc. After turning it on and off, unplugging, changing disc types, etc., I called LG (800-243-0000). By the way, the service number was also listed on the player. Perhaps that was a hint right there. After talking to "Bernard" and going through the various machinations that he wanted, he realized that yes the blu ray player is broken. At which time I would need to immediately pay $59 via credit card over the phone and he would make arrangements to send the player to Huntsville. Since "Bernard" knew my address and phone number, I confirmed that I submitted warranty information to LG. He said that LG covered the unit for 90 days and after that they would pay for parts ONLY and I would pay for labor and apparently $59 to start the ball rolling.

Please do not purchase this item. Reading the back of the unit, I discovered that it was manufactured in August 2009, purchased November 25, and died June 20, 2010. I'm not a rich person, but it would seem reasonable that if I or you spend $100 on an item, it should work at least one year. Just my opinion. I gave the dvd 3 stars because when it worked, I had no problems with operation, picture, sound. O stars for quality.

Good Value Blu-Ray player
I have had this player for 6 months. My display is only 1080i, so I can't comment on full HD PQ.
Easy hookup with HDMI and set-up was quick.
Picture and sound are better than I expected in this price range. I leave the sound processing to my AVR as I have found it better than the capability of this player.
Loads BD reasonably well, but make sure you have the latest firmware upgrade from LG.
Remote feels cheap, but I use a Harmony for everything so it doesn't matter.

I am happy with this player; especially for the price.
