Audio/AV system use
This deck is part of a church commuter and audio/video system. Seems at this point to be doing a great job!

was somwhat misreprsented
When we searched we were looking for a recorder. This one only plays. It is very expensive for just a player. We sent it back and got one that records and plays for alot less money.

Replacement combo unit
We bought this unit to replace older individual DVD and VHS units. The fact that it may well be the only Blu-ray/VHS combo unit out there was a major factor in selecting this unit. The single output [HDMI] with upscaling however is a nice feature. We have a vast library of VHS training and safety videos that will not be copied over to newer media (i.e. DVD, Blu-ray) any time soon due to time and available resource constraints. Therefore this product was selected. It has done well to date, we are pleased with it.

Nice multimedia player
I am very pleased with this purchase. Easy to set up. The terrific detailed reviews helped me select this player. I recommend it.

Good package but wheres my Netflix?
I read that Vieracast supported Netflix and still have a library of VHS tapes, so this one box would solve my upscaling issues as I went HD on top of all the other features I was looking for. I also liked the support for Picasa web photos, as I use the service and could do slide shows.

But alas, Netflix is no where to be found. I'm also perplexed that the letter box bars when watching VHS tapes or 4:3 DVDs are grey, not black. I find them quite distracting.

If you need the single box and want to keep viewing VHS in the digital age, it is a good compromise. Otherwise I'd recommend some other legacy solution for VHS, and get a dedicated and more highly rated and full featured Blu-ray player.

Update: After owning this for a few months I stumbled on the fact that setting the "Screen saver" function to "off" turns the letterbox bars from grey to black.
