Date: 2010-04-08 Stopped working at 3 months one week after warrarnty! I'm shocked at all the 5 star reviews. I spent $348 on this piece of junk that broke after 100 days - one week after the warranty expired! They want $69 to "fix" it. After reading the other reviews, I'm going to save my $69 and use it toward buying a Sony, since it sounds like they won't fix anything. My player stopped playing Blu Ray discs after I uploaded the newest firmware in March. That's when the trouble started. Then it would freeze and crash every time I put in a Blu Ray. (It will still play DVDs) . So I'm stuck with a $348 DVD player. Great, I could have just spent $48 for that and saved $300! Tech support was nice, but not very knowledgeable, and wait times were 20-30 minutes. I will never, ever buy another LG product again. Date: 2010-04-05 A Good Player and Choice on My Part I'm glad I bought this Blu-Ray player. I did a lot of research and finally picked out this model. Once set up it work real well. I had trouble setting up the sound options as the terminology used by my receiver and the player is different so it took some trial and error. The picture quality is amazing. I have hard wired the unit to the internet so that I can stream Netflix movies with higher quality. The network setup is also a little painful especially if you need to modify just one setting. This is because if you want to modify any network settings, you have to complete the entire setup of the network again. You can't just go in and tweak the one setting. All in all I would buy this player again. Date: 2010-04-02 Blueray player The LG BD390 is an excellent blueray player. It is LG top of the line player with distint feachures. It has the ability to stream Netflix if you subcribe to them. Also the fact that it has a wireless connection to the internet is a big plus, no need to run an internet connection wire. I would buy this product again. The only drawback is that it is expensive. Before one buys this you might also consider buying a PS3 Slim for almost the same price. Date: 2010-03-26 This is the one. My father decided he wanted to go All Digital with his AV equipment. This included a Blu-Ray player. I tried to talk him out of Blu-Ray, since I had just managed to donate several boxes of his old VHS tapes and dreaded the prospect of him re-re-buying his favorite movies, this time in Blu-Ray. But the more I researched the different players, the more excited I became. Today's Blu-Ray players, and this one in particular, are far more than stand-alone disc players. They now compete for dominance over all of your AV activities. The LG BD390 is a gem. After My father got his and we got everything going, I ended up buying 2 for my own house, my brother bought one, and friend bought one for himself. I own 1 Blu-Ray disc, and it plays that disc very well. But that's not why I bought it. Over the years, I have managed to rip most of my CDs and DVDs to hard drives. I now have an NAS (network storage device) on my local network. The LG BD390 immediately detected my NAS and has been able to play almost all of the digital media from it without complaints. Originally, I had stored the video as AVIs, but recently have been storing them as MKVs. The BD390 doesn't care. It plays them all with impunity. Same with MP3s. In addition, my eldest daughter can use the BD390 to watch Harry Potter Puppet Pals on YouTube and, much to my horror, my youngest can watch the Gummi Bear video until my ears bleed. Another thing that sets this player apart from the rest is the inherent Wireless N. It's built in and doesn't cost extra. Setting it up is swift and easy, but I use a wired connection. Before I discovered this unit, I was using TVersity on a home server to watch my videos through my DirecTV DVR (THE PAIN!) The BD390 was on sale for $250 and I kept thinking, "Holy Cow! I don't have to buy a dedicated Home Media Center computer (much more expensive)and I don't have to put up with with my old MacGyver setup ANY MORE! I'll take two!" And I did. Date: 2010-03-24 Issues with Win 7 the player plays Blu-ray just fine, Netflix is great. Problem I have is streaming from my media servers. They are both running Windows 7 and the shares do not work on either. As a test, I tried it on an old XP box I had and that works fine streaming movies. I spoke with their helpdesk and suffice it to say they are not aware of any issues with Win 7, but then they were not aware of very much at all. Has anyone gotten it to work streaming from Win 7 shares? * Price is subject to change. |
