Date: 2010-04-15 No Help from Samsung! I purchased a BDP1600 from Best Buy. I hooked it up in a rec room and didn't get a blu-ray disc to play for another 3 months. When I went to play it, the disc played for a little over 5 minutes and quit. I took it in to a local service center and was told the 90 labor warranty had expired but the parts were under warranty. After they spent another two months trying to get parts from Samsung that worked, they declared it unfixable. They thought Samsung should replace the unit. Samsung said since I took it to a repair center other than theirs, the parts warranty was also rendered invalid. They would fix it for $160.00. I told them I'd paid $200.00 for a new machine and got less than 10 minutes use out of it. If I'm going to spend another $160.00 on a blu-ray player it certainly won't be with Samsung! So far they've wiggled out of every bit of resposiblity for this. I now have a $200.00 paperweight and the last Samsung product I'll ever buy!!! Date: 2010-04-14 Great except for it quit working Really liked this blu-ray player however it quit working sometime after being updated. (Can only get the blue loading screen) It's possible we did something wrong but I don't know what. We'll be exchanging though as we were happy with it before it lost functionality. Date: 2010-04-14 Problems, problems and more problems Ireceived this blu ray player for Christmas. Foolishly, I played a blu ray disc but never tried the USB port for photos or music. I tried the USB port the other day and it will not display photos or play music. I keep getting the message on the screen "No disc". The photos are in JPG format and the music is in MP3 format, which is what the player calls for. I called Samsung and they told me the usb port is defective, however, the product is "out of warranty". I explained to them that I regestered the product with Samsung on-line and that by doing so, I received a 3 month extension on the warranty. Customer service stated that the 3 month extension only covers parts and NOT labor. The labor to fix the product will be $130.00 . Samsung will not budge. I again explained that I had never used the USB port until recently, and that is when I found the problem. Made no difference, Samsung stated I must pay to have it fixed. So.....I am supposed to pay 130.00 for a product that cost $150.00?? I don't think so. Also, the tray will not play a CD in MP3 format. This thing is poorly made and is junk. What a foolish company. I have spent thousands on their products (a new refrigerator, several Televisions and more. They have no idea what a good customer they have lost. No more Samsung in this family. Date: 2010-04-14 Great player--just ordered one for my son. Works beautifully with the Samsung HD TV. Easy to use, simple to connect, brilliant picture. Date: 2010-04-13 Good Solid Blu Ray Player with Netflix/Youtube/Pandora I ordered this as a factory reconditioned unit through Amazon. It arrived quickly and was easy to set up following the directions. From the reviews, I was a little leary of the software upgrade that it immediately wanted to do. I avoided it and used it without any problem. Later in the week, I made sure the disk tray was empty per another reviewer and performed the upgrade which added Youtube and Pandora to the list of options. It went flawlessly. I have since had two more software upgrades with no issues. The disc player works very well and quality is excellent. I have watched lots of movies streamed from Netflix easily and quickly. It is also fun to watch some goofy clips from Youtube on a big screen, but hard to call them up using an 'onscreen' telephone-like pad and 'texting' in the title using the evaluated remote below. The only criticism I have of this player is that the remote (which also controls the TV) has to be pointed directly and accurately at the player or TV. Lots of repeat commands because it does not get the first command. It has to be redirected slightly to control the TV volume or else it does not change the volume/mute, etc. The other remotes I have only require being pointed in the approximate direction of the equipment for them to work. * Price is subject to change. |
