Date: 2010-05-01 Works great I received this free with my Samsung TV. I wasn't expecting a lot but this blu-ray player has been a nice surprise. I downloaded the newest firmware and didn't have any problems. I tried out Avatar (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo) [Blu-ray] yesterday and it worked great. The movie loaded up pretty fast. The most used feature in my household is the ability to watch Youtube videos on this. I would highly recommend it. Date: 2010-04-25 Stopped playing Blu-Ray within less than a year This was a good DVD player while it worked. The user interface was intuitive and featured great support for Netflix, Blockbuster, and Pandora. Startup took awhile but once it was playing, the sound and video quality were excellent. Blu-Ray was a definite upgrade from regular DVD. But like many others, in spite of (or perhaps because of) diligent firmware updates, my disc player can no longer play Blu-Ray discs. Now whenever I put in a Blu-Ray disc, the players struggles to read it, then ejects it with an error message. The player was never even moved before it started having this problem. Date: 2010-04-21 Terrible skipping issues. Network features are great This player has such great potential-Pandora, Netflix and Blockbuster streaming are awesome. (youtube is kind of lame for tv). But for playing discs it is just awful. Brand new blurays seem to skip even if they are just slightly finger smudged. And DVDs if they are even a little bit scuffed up, become almost unplayable. I would say that in two months I have never played a disc that did not skip at least a few times. Two thirds of them you end up missing parts of the movie even if you take out the disc and clean it carefully. When I compare that kind of behavior to my old workhorse dvd players I've had over the years it's just pathetic. I guess this unit probably had alignment issues or something, but thats a QC issue, and it should never have gone out the factory door like this. Moreover, it has undermined my general confidence in Samsung products. I really only realized the player was a piece of garbage after about a month and a half of use. Too late to return it. Luckily my credit card company has an extra two month return policy, and have agreed to take it back, so I am going to get rid of it and try a Sony BDP N460. I am disappointed because this player had everything going for it on paper. I initially gave it two stars because the netflix and pandora streaming are awesome and work great on my fast home network. But when it comes down to it, this is a disc player, and it won't play discs, so it gets one star. Date: 2010-04-16 Good product, works great! I've been using this player for just over a month and so far it has been performing as expected. Watching Netflix on TV is a BIG plus! If you have good speed internet and you are a Netflix member, this product should be on the top of your list. Picture quality is quite good. As I have Samsung LN46B630 46-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV with Red Touch of Color as well, the combination of the two works very well; you can use one remote control with both of them. They don't send HDMI cable with the player (instead they send AVI cable), which is stupid, but that's not a deal breaker; you can get the cable for as low as couple of bucks. Overall, a good product, no issues so far. I am enjoying it and would definitely recommend. Date: 2010-04-16 Fireware Update "Works Perfect" 4/16/10 I recently purchased BD-1600 and did read the cautionary notes by other buyers about accepting the automated Firmware upgrade offered by Samsung. I contact Samsung before accepting and they promised it would not corrupt my unit. SAMSUNG WAS 100% RIGHT - WORKED PERFECT. I had absolutely no problems with my Blu-ray playing or connecting to Netflix. Hope this helps those still holding off upgrading. Buy / Upgrade with confidence! * Price is subject to change. |
