Date: 2010-02-21 think twice before buying this dvd player if you want it for DivX capability I have always been a fan of Samsung's products and I bought this dvd player mainly for it's supposed ability to play DivX files... I have been very disappointed in this claimed feature. My Xbox 360 has better DivX playback ability than this junk.. it doesn't even support a 1080p resolution DivX file and the manual only states compatibility with DivX versions 3,4 and 5 and version 7 has been out for quite some time now... it will only play DivX files with .avi extension... if there is the slightest hiccup in the divx video, the samsung goes back to the menu, where my xbox 360 will glitch a little then keep playing the video.. the samsung will just simply refuse to play some divx files where my xbox 360 will play any and all I've thrown at it... with the samsung, if your playing a divx file and want to rewind it to see or hear something again, it skips back ridiculously far in a couple of seconds ... which I find absurd... if you pause the video, it shuts off in a couple of minutes and then you have to restart the whole movie and fast forward to where you were... it doesn't 'resume' like my xbox 360 does with divx files... the menu screen is horrible.. you can't see the whole file name so if you have several files of a series and they have the same name with the episode number at the end you can't tell which is which and have to try to count down the list to get to a specific one you want to watch.. awful.. I kept thinking they would come out with a firmware upgrade to fix their horrible mistakes and they finally did but the instructions for doing the firmware upgrade are terrible.. I'm fairly tech savvy and if you're someone that isn't .. you have no hope of doing it.. first their instructions require you to have Nero burning software to burn the disc.. which is retarded.. why should I have to buy software to make a firmware upgrade disc.. just make the image and let us download it .. why should we have to download 3-4 different files and make it ourselves. POST AN IMAGE SAMSUNG !!!! or a self extracting .exe file that we can just put on a usb flash drive.. I tried using burning software that I had to burn these files to a cd and the samsung wouldn't read the disc... they have failed miserably ... I will say that playing my regular dvd's on this player looks better than my regular old dvd player so the upconversion thing seems to work pretty well but if you're looking for a player for DivX files.. forget this one.. you WILL be disappointed.. get a Xbox 360 for DivX. Date: 2010-02-09 I was hoping for better I wouldn't call this thing great. We stream most of our media, but needed a cheap-but-decent DVD player around the house. We had issues with interference with this player being on effecting our HD-over-airwaves signal; basically we have to keep it off when we're not using it. Date: 2010-02-08 GREAT DVD PLAYER I wanted a HD DVD player compatible to my new HD samsung tv. I bought a 32" flat screen tv. The DVD is the best. Great quality for the money. I believe I got this on sale for about $60. It converts my regular dvd's to High definition. Great buy for the money and it works great. I am very satisfied with my purchase Date: 2010-02-08 Nice with One Fatal Flaw I bought this one for around $99 at Best Buy to go with my Samsung LCD TV. It's no harder or easier to hook up and program than any other DVD player. It has HDMI and digital Toslink audio, which are a plus. The DVD system on-screen menu is low resolution and looks quite shabby. I could let that slide except for one fatal flaw. Depending on the movie or how fast you try to skip through the DVD menu, the software on the player can get hung to where it will get stuck displaying a menu or blank screen. It wouldn't be so bad if I could just hit the stop button or reset the unit with the power button. When it gets hung, the ONLY remedy is to unplug the DVD player! Maybe it's just me, but my DVD player is plugged in behind a very heavy entertainment center mixed in with a jumble of wires from other equipment. Having to unplug it can be very inconvenient. By the way, I asked my friend who recently purchased the Samsung Blue Ray player with WiFi if he ever had the same problem, and sure enough it also happens on their new players too. I guess Samsung hasn't fixed the problem, which is too bad because I really like their TVs. Date: 2010-02-04 Value for money Very good player for the money, but I must admit very noisy during operation..so I could not give it a 5 * Price is subject to change. |
