User Submitted AmazonBasics RJ45 Cat5e Ethernet Patch Cable (14 Feet / 4.2 Meters) Reviews Date: 2010-07-20 OK. I guess Well first of all the cable isn't blue. Not that I'm biased on that but it seems to be tradtional -blue cable indicated Ethernet and conformance to certain fire codes to designate somethng or other. My complaint is with the connectors. On both ends when the cables are new they stick. In my first try with a new one, I got it into my laptop with some heft needed. When it came time to go portable it was almost impossible to remove. After I got it removed by gentle twisting, lots of cursing, and other technical magc, it did come out. On the same laptop I then tried some old Ethernet cable - the blue kind - and one click you're in, one you're out. Had the same problem with another cable of the same type on the router. Not fun. To remove this cable takes muscle and/or cunning. Patience works best, like you have that during a install. Right. But - the ones at Wal-Mart didn't look any better and were a lot more expensive. 2X. I won' buy another of these. If you do, use once and be ready for a difficult removal at least the first time. You plug one end in to one piece of equipment (game console, computer/laptop, internet-enabled audio receiver, etc...) and plug the other end into your cable modem or more likely a router. That's it. No need to buy super-premium ultra-high grade digital ethernet cables at a premium price when the AmazonBasics cable does the job, does it right, and does it at a price that doesn't feel like highway robbery. The fact that it took two weeks to deliver (at order time it was listed as "in stock") wouldn't encourage me to seek more hardware from this supplier. Date: 2010-06-05 good cable I needed this long cable to set up my wireless router--encrypted. It worked as expected. I feel safer now. * Price is subject to change. |
