Opened item sold as new?
Bought a new Sony KDL-40S4100 TV from Video & Audio Center thru Amazon in Dec.'08 at $897.97 with free shipping and no tax. It was the cheapest on-line. Video & Audio Center has a good on-line rating. I'm still worrying about getting a refurbish unit. When I got the unit, I can tell the original sealed tape has been cut and re-sealed with clear tape. Inside the box, 2 styrofoam corner paddings were broken. It indicated that the TV has been taken out before. I can't tell if this is an refurbish unit or new unit. The TV works basically. I have to spend the next 2 weeks verifying all control and functions.

First HDTV and I love it!
I'm not a HDTV guru but I was shocked by the quality as soon as I setup the TV. I know there's a lot of quality brands out there and could be overwhelming in your decision, but I can assure you that you will not be dissappointed. Blueray movies are exquisite, non HD channels are still outstanding..If I had to say something, it would be the loading time in the begining. IT takes about 10 seconds for the tv boot

Sony Bravia KDL-40S4100
The picture is great. I don't know how much better the 120Hz or other higher cost Sony's are, but the 1080 resolution on this basic Bravia is superb - I've yet to notice any blurring on fast moving objects.

The sound is very good - for DVD's or orchestral shows, I've got it attached to two channel stereo - not surround, but plenty good enough.

The only annoyance is the slow warmup (15-20 seconds) - but that's it! An Excellent choice for HD!

Sony 40" Bravia TV
I throughly enjoy my new 40" t.v. It has excellent color and with the new HD DVR all i can say is "WOW". It's nice to be in the kitchen cooking and be able to really "SEE" the t.v. not just hear.
