Date: 2009-10-11 Didn't last a year When an electronic product breaks in less than a year, it's a piece of junk. After just 6 months the DVD door opens and then shuts before I can get the DVD on the tray. I doubt I'll trust another Samsung DVD product again! Date: 2009-10-06 Piece of junk am 55 yrs. old and I am a digital photographer. I bought this Samsung VR357 to put VHS movies onto DVD, both single and dual layer. Out of all the software, cameras, recorders, etc. I have ever bought in my life this is the worst piece of junk I have ever owned and the problems were right out of the box. I have had the following problems: *Dual Layer disc fails to intialize properly - disc in the garbage. *Dual Layer disc fails to finalize properly - disc in the garbage and hours of recording utterly wasted. *Recording stops in the middle of recording, the machine shuts off - disc in the garbage and hours of recording time wasted. *Recording stops in the middle, machine stays on, disc won't update info - disc in the garbage - hours of recording wasted. *Fails to recognize VHS tapes - you get sound and no picture - fiddling around eventually brings it back - more time wasted. *Regular DVD-R fails to finalize - more recording time wasted. Buy this junk at your own risk. I was so frustrated I almost took a hammer to it. How Samsung can put out this garbage is utterly beyond me. If they read this they owe me a full refund. I won't hold my breath waiting. You can pick up this $175 machine used on Ebay for $30 which tells what others think of it as well. New news 1 week later: Now it won't record onto a new batch of Memorex DVD-R's I bought at all whereas before it did that pretty well. The new batch of DVD+R DL mostly work but today I tried to record VHS to DVD 3 times and the machine stopped recording and shut off at various times - more DVD's in the garbage and time wasted. The 4th DVD failed to intialize properly and now I'm trying to record that same VHS tape onto DVD for the 5th time as I write this; I'm burning incense and chanting to help. Samsung should issue a recall on this one. Their HQ never responded to my email. Date: 2009-08-29 Terrible Product. Already returned for refund. My title says it all. I was having the same problem with the video and sound being out of sync. I did hard reset on the unit. I tried several different types of media as well. I then boxed it up and sent it back. I will look into purchasing something else, now that several companies are making this type of unit with digital decoders too. I think most of the people that haven't had any problems and love this unit are the ones that just need a separate VCR/DVD combo device. They are not using the dubbing feature and therefore not experiencing the same problems everyone else has been having. I know that is why I decided to give it a try after all. Oh, well...my $40.00 mistake. Date: 2009-08-17 Complete waste of money I wanted to save all of the movies that I bought, on DVD's. I was unable to do so because the unit scrambles the signals. Date: 2009-08-14 Very disappointed in Samsung with this item. I have liked everything Samsung I have owned to date besides this unit(TV's, computer components, calculators, radios etc). After one month it would only play in black and white. Sent it in and they would only resolve to make the HDMI work in color and I had to upgrade to HDMI... not a big deal, just annoying. What if I didn't have a TV that accepted HDMI at the time though? I am pleased with the ease of dubbing VHS to DVD. However, VHS is only black and white now. So, if I dub one of my old home videos it will only be in black and white. It had been 6 months since using the VCR portion of the unit so I don't know when it happened, but at this point I'm past the year by a little and it does me no good. The unit is very buggy on the dvd end too. I will have times where I need to turn the unit on and off several times before it will see or play a dvd. And I mean new dvds and old alike. It won't even send out a signal to my TV sometimes. Overall, I'm very upset with the loss of money I spent on this. * Price is subject to change. |
