this is an excellent blu-ray dvd player
We just received our Sylvania NB500SL9 Blu-Ray DVD player and highly recommend it. We bought it based on the Consumer Report recommendation and are not disappointed. The manual is easy to understand and hookup was very simple and quick. The remote control is also very user friendly. After hookup we popped in a blu-ray dvd and the picture quality was unbelievable. We are using it with a 46" Samsung LCD TV. Our purchase was direct from Amazon.com and included free shipping. Delivery took place within 4 days of our online purchase. Everything was nice and smooth and this player is a great value for the price.

Blu Ray Player
Got this for my husband for action movie. We felt it was easy to set up with our Onkyo receiver and Sony TV. We watched the HULK and felt like it played to our expectations. I was happy that the HDMI cable was included. We really enjoy it.

Everything I Expected
This product is everything I had expected. Of course when I follow Consumer Reports' recommendations that's usually what happens! For the last month I have enjoyed watching standard DVD's upgraded to nearly HD quality. The difference is significant and nearly as good as watching full HD. My only complaint has to do more with NetFlix than the player itself--their Blu Ray discs all appear to be available only in widescreen format. I prefer viewing movies on the full screen.

No sound when trying to watch blu-ray disc
Bought this due to consumer reports reviews. This item did not work out of the box and after 2 calls to sylvania customer service and 1 call to Samsung customer service it was determined that this was a defective unit. Samsung, which is our TV brand should've not have been called (the first sylvania tech stated that the reason there was no sound coming from the blu-ray disc even though sound would come through on a regular DVD and when watching TV) but we did anyway and as expected it was determined that it was not the TV, we called sylvania back and this time talked to a what sounded like a more experienced operator finally determined afte going through all the settings about 3 times that it was the DVD player. Then the operator stated I should buy the next better slyvania DVD player because it could be updated with firmware updates when sylvania came out with them. The reason the sound went out (or actually it was never there for blu-ray) was because, per the tech at sylvania, there are 2 sounds chips in this device, one for blu-ray 7.1 sound and one for regular DVD 5.1. Sent this back to Amazon, got full refund, and went to local A/V store and bought a Samsung blu-ray.

nice
About the easiest setup of any electronics I have purchased. Just plug in the included HDMI cord and it is ready to go. Everything works smoothly. Great picture. Great price.
