Date: 2008-12-24 Broke quickly The Samsung is a good-looking blu-ray player and it displayed 1080p with a brilliant picture. However, I only got to see 15 movies before it broke. It suddenly stopped out-putting sound. I bought a new HDMI cable, tried component, updated firmware - no luck, no sound no matter what I did. Samsung was extremely unhelpful when I contacted them, except to tell me that it was a problem with their player and to send it back to them (at my expense) and they would fix it - but never sent me the shipping label. Thank goodness for Amazon, who will give me a refund. I don't know why the sound failed after 15 plays- maybe I just got a defective one - but I don't want to try Samsung again. It gets two stars - one for looks, one for beautiful picture. It was a nice budget player - while it lasted. Date: 2008-12-23 Samsung BD-P1500 1080p Blu-ray Player This player is excellent both with Blu-ray discs and regular discs since it uploads them to High Defintion format. Would recommend this player to anyone. Date: 2008-12-23 Not Much Good Sans Remote Control This unit requires its remote control for the performance of most functions, and without the remote, it's not much good. Mine arrived out-of-the-box with a defective remote, and Samsung said it would take, if I recall correctly, seven to 14 business days to get a replacement to me. So I returned the unit to Amazon and bought another brand of Blu Ray player, which has been satisfactory. Date: 2008-12-23 Excellent Blu-Ray and Upconverting player !! I recently got this player in the amazon.com deal ($200 off with Blu-Ray DVDs). As soon as I got it, I hooked it to my Samsung 56" 1080p TV via HDMI and updated it with the latest firmware (dated 12/2/08). Blu-ray dvd will blow you away but what took by surprise was how good of upconverting job it did on standard DVDs... unbelievable. I have Oppo upconverting player (which is highly ranked) but Samsung was far better... crisp, clear and phenomenal resolution... I played just about every dvd; standard, burnt on dvd-r (various disks; name brand and generic) and it played them all.. If you have Samsung TV, its no brainer to buy this player (incase you are debating whether to go with this one or other brand).... Overall, excellent value ***** stars. Date: 2008-12-23 Good Buy Great dvd player. Haven't explored all the features but did notice a great improvement playing regular DVD's.
