Date: 2008-12-29 Worked one time Got this as a Christmas gift for the family. At first the picture was great--watched Sleeping Beauty in Blu Ray and it had the clearest picture. After that, anytime the player went to spin up a disc the picture turned purple, and the signal cut out for a few seconds before coming back on. I tried this player with two different HDMI cables and had this same result. Updated the firmware via Ethernet and reset to factory default settings per Samsung with the same results. I tried this on my Philips HDTV CRT Hi-Def monitor, but on my Vizio 32" LCD I did get a picture a couple of times, but still had the purple flashes upon the boot process. Samsung thought it was their player and wanted it returned to them, but instead I returned it to Amazon because I am not sure how long I am going to be without a player. The price was right, but if I am going to have issues like this it isn't worth the aggravation. I ordered a Sony BDPS350 instead like many others have who have had issues with the Samsung. And one other thing to note--this unit does get blazing hot on the top and bottom. Many of my friends have this player and like it, but I guess this isn't my year for electronics. Do plenty of homework before buying a player--if I were to recommend this brand I would go with one of their upper end players until they get the kinks worked out of this one. Date: 2008-12-29 Nice Blu-ray player I bought this Blu-ray player as a gift at the $200 price point and it was well worth the price. The player performs great, although I noticed load times were a little slower than the Sony BDP-S550. Installation and setup was fairly simple and the firmware upgrade went smooth. The download and installation directions from Samsung's website were easy to follow. Date: 2008-12-29 great blu ray to match my samsung TV! I bought this as a combo with my flat screen TV, I have no regrets. The price was GREAT and the image we are getting with this dvd player is to die for. The prime shipping with Amazon is the best! You get your orders in 2 days. The only problem is that not all items qualify for the prime shipping so at the end Im still not sure if it[s worth signing up to prime until all items from Amazon and more for their suppliers do qualify. I recently placed an order of 5 items and only one was eligible for prime shipping. Though I love Amazon, I must say most of their suppliers have extremely high shipping rates whihc make the discounts at the end to be not as good as published. I would recommend Amazon negotiate better shipping deals with their suppliers. Date: 2008-12-28 Had to upgrade the firmware The first blu-ray disk I tried to play failed because the firmware wasn't up to date. The upgrade process was easy enough - I used a USB thumb drive. Once the upgrade was finished, the movie played fine. Date: 2008-12-28 First Blu-Ray after owning HD-DVD HD-DVD RIP... Hello Blu-Ray! I must say, this player is a bit of a step backward from my 'old' HD-DVD player, but I certainly can't complain about the price. Has almost everything you could want.... hoping for a player that is a bit faster to load though.
