Date: 2008-12-20 Great DVD player for the price This is my foray into any Samsung products. But this unit came with the Samsung TV I purchased. It is a great unit- plays all disks as advertised, and looks and sounds great with BluRays and regular DVD's. Date: 2008-12-20 Good player and excellent value! For me the most important items are cost, picture quality, and plug-and-play capability. This unit plugged up to my Sharp LCD HDTV via HDMI and produced a great picture. The BluRay picture is very good. The up-converted DVD picture is also quite good. Only problem I have had is I can't get the player remote to control my TV volume even though I put in the code(s) specified in the player manual. Value for what I paid is fantastic - this was the lowest priced player by a long shot I found at the time of my purchase (November 2008). Date: 2008-12-20 Great Player This Bluray player works great. I paid $200 here on amazon with free shipping. Excellent player at an excellent price! You can update the firmware to be BD Live capable. I personally have not done this as I don't really care for the current features of BD Live. PROs- Quality player, quiet, very stylish, samsung anynet+ which allows you to control the bluray player by pointing the remote to the TV. This works great for me as I have the player hidden in a closet. Lastly Price. Cons- The only negative thing I have to say about the player it that it does not have a chapter skip button. It does have a fastforward button that lets you fast forward from 2x to 160x I think maybe even 320x (not sure on the 320 I can't remember.) All in all a great player. I highly recommend. NOTE: If you have a subscription to Netflix you may want to look at the BD-P2500 which allows you to stream movies from the ethernet port directly on the bluray player. Date: 2008-12-18 Unit Froze - Samsun Unfriendly Policy The very first time I used this unit it froze up after playing a Blue Ray disk for ~15 minutes. None of the controls worked and the unit was extremely hot. Shut off the unit but experienced same freeze up, with either a Blue Ray disk or a regular DVD. I called and requested a replacement, but Samsung's policy is to return the unit for repair, UPS regular both ways and 7 - 10 days in the shop. They refused to send me a replacement until they tried to service it. An extremely customer UNFRIENDLY policy !!! Date: 2008-12-18 Very Very disappointed This is my second blu-yar player. My first one was by a completely different manufacture. After some issues with it, i bought the Samsung. With out missing a beat, i had major issues. Keep in mind it was updated right away to the latest firmware as of 12/17/08. * BD's that had no problem in the other player would slowdown Samsung. Very similar to a player attempting to seek past a damaged area of the disc. It has done this to 2 NEW discs straight out of packaging. I have no explanation for this. i wasn't asking the player to do anything but its most basic and primary task. Play a movie. * Loading a BD (specifically WALL-E) can take for ever, or never happens at all. i have had the most problems with WALL-E. 80% of the time the player will not even load, just a endless black screen. i have waited up to 10 minutes! Probably a bad idea because when i pulled the disc out it was extremely hot. I would not put it past this player (the slow down of play back). Again, the player has been updated to the latest firmware, and the disc is NEW. * Audio drops. MANY people have complained about this. I don't need to. * The screen will shift or flicker a small amount for no reason during playback. This can be very annoying! All in all....it's going back to the store. I only payed $199 for mine while it was on discount, and i liked my first one (cheaper) better. If your looking at buying this unit... turn your head, click elsewhere or walk away. its not ready for its price tag yet.
