panasonic dvd
I am very pleased with this DVD player.
I compared it to a sony and thought the panasonic was a little better.
It plays any DVD no matter how old and the picture on the hdtv is excellent.

Panasonic S-54 is a winner
This relatively inexpensive component to my video system has been in place for several months and it performs exceptionally well. Easy to setup, easy to operate. An excellent value.

Don't Waste The Money!
Panasonic DVD-S54K 1080p Upconverting DVD Player
I bought this product because earlier versions of this DVD player had brilliant color, and very high definition with DVD playback. I assumed that Panasonic had kept these features (high-quality video definition and brilliant color playback) as the standard for the next generation of their DVD upscale players. The truth is this is the worst picture possible with an upscale converting DVD player. The features are not worth the price and a bad quality video player is the exception and not the rule today. Don't buy this, you will regret it!

Good for the ducats
Solid DVD player, good value and works with my Pana Plasma, instantly switches to the right HDMI input when powering the DVD on. Remote is shabby but I use an X-10 universal so it doesn't really matter. The other reason I bought it is to play MPEG-4 discs and it works well for that.

Nice DVD Player While You Wait for Blue-Ray Prices to Fall
It seems I have been on the "bleeding edge" of consumer electronics for my whole life, which is my cross to bear as an early adopter of technology. I once paid $1000 for a VCR when they first came out in 1980. So anyway, I bought a wonderful Panasonic 50" plasma 1080p HDTV last fall. Blue-Rays were selling for $400 at the time, but I decided I'd wait until Panasonic Blue-Ray prices fell to under $150 (you know this will happen). I bought this very nice Panasonic S54K DVD player to hold me over until then. I was pleasantly surprised that the image quality is excellent on my HDTV ('though not HD). The "up-convert to 1080p" feature is certainly adequate until the time is right for a new Blue-Ray player. Newer Panasonic Viera TVs recognize other Panasonic Viera components like this DVD, so integration is semi-automatic. One minor complaint is the disk drawer seems a little cheap, but hey, this is a inexpensive machine with nice features. If you have a standard definition TV, this unit is perfectly fine.
