Long waiting, Incredibly good unit, No Tivo
This is the item what I have been long waiting.
No problem to connect to Satelite Box, Video Recorder, Another DVD Player, and Timer Recording is simple, accurate.
My TV is a standard Samsong, not digital, but has composite video inputs in the rear and front.

As comparison with this unit, I had a terrible experience trying Hitachi's unit, which did not work with my Satelite Box.

This Philips unit is the best item I have ever purchased in my long life.

This e-merchant is also superior in terms of the price and quick shipping.
It was delivered on next day by FEDEX and shipping was free!

My happiest purchasing experience and my wife is also happy with timer-recording many hours of satelite programs while traveling!

got a good deal on this toy
I bought it from SAM's Club last week for $125, because it was a display unit. So far I am happy with it. With that price, I have nothing to complain.

Things to look out for
This unit performs reasonably well. Here are the main downsides:

1. The unit has the ability to record all tracks from a DVD to the HD, as indicated on p.53 of the manual. This would be useful for say dubbing a home movie DVD to HD so you could re-edit or reburn a different disk with different tracks for other family members. If you have say 40 short clips to dub, this feature would be great since you could start it and let it copy all 40 tracks ("titles" in DVD lingo). Unfortunately it doesn't work. Well, it works, but only if the DVD you want to dub from is writable (has room left to record and is not finalized), which will not often be the case. This makes more sense if you are trying to dub from the HD to the DVD. But from DVD to HD? Why is this necessary? The company won't say. They just say it's just not designed to do that even though the manual says otherwise. So instead you have to do an analog copy from another DVD player, then break up the single full disk play into individual tracks - very time consuming. Or you could use the one-at-a-time dubbing feature, 40 times. Also time consuming.

2. When you finalize a disk (DVD), there is an entry for an empty track.

3. When you finalize a disk, the disk menu it creates is ugly.

4. The fan can be noisy, even when the unit is off.

5. Customer service leaves much to be desired, but at least they do speak english.

Philips' customer service stinks!
I have an earlier version of this product and love it. I ordered this one on 10/25/08 and Amazon did its usual wonderful job!

However, on 11/21/08 the Philips DVDR3576H/37 failed to record. It failed again on 11/25/08. On 11/26/08 I called the Philips support line. BIG MISTAKE! The operator "Justin" was rude and very unhelpful. "I don't know" was his main response. I asked to talk to a supervisor and he refused. When he finally connected me with "Darrell" he was just as unknowledgeable and just as rude. They refused to honor warranty and refused to exchange product because they "were not convinced" that the product was defective. I have filed complaints with the company and the BBB. Let's see what happens.

enjoy the best buy of DVDR
Just received my new DVDR and it's my first Philps product I ever own. I am very pleased with good design by Philips, it had better product and idea than Panasonic. I own many Panasonic product in my home, I was thinking they are better product, I was wrong. Compare this DVDR with Panasonic's DVDR, it totally change my point of view. This set get better reception than Panasonic's DMR-EZ47 or DMR-EZ17(both these have digital turner, but it skip programed recording all the time and frequent lock up). I use same attenna as I used on Panasonic on this Philips DVDR, and no distorted picture at all and getting more HD channels. I like the Hard disc option, it is so convenient and recorded TV shows are all had beautiful picture. AMAZON ship fast and free -another plus! Still trying to know more feature of this set, will update my review for any finding, so far it is 200% satisfy this product.
Now I realized Panasonic product is not as good as old days. My TV, my old VCR, 2 new tech "inverter" microwave oven, and 2 DVD recorder.. they all break down on me just little over the warranty period, and even when they work, they are not perform well as the price I paid. No more Panasonic for me from now!!!!
