Works Perfectly
This works perfectly. I think the issue people are having is the confusion between Component and Composite. Check your TV and the Apple product that you wish to connect and make sure you get the RIGHT cable. With the right cable you should have no problems.

Overprice cable
The cable works. How can it not be? It's the cable that connects iPod classic to TV. So there is not much choice.

Making old genuine Apple video cable is bad. Forcing customer to buy the video cable that bundles with power adapter is ridiculous. I guess charging $50 for proprietary cable looks really bad, so throwing in a charger makes it looks OK. The charger probably costs $1 to mfr in China anyways.

Embedding a chip into the cable to force iPod customers to purchase Apple accessory is not inherently unfair, as long as the price is reasonable. This looks like a good reason to start a consumer class action suit.

It does not work
I bought (at Amazon) this item to view my pictures that are stored in the ipod classic.
My tv is a Samsung plasma (not HDTV) and it does not work there.
Just to see how it "would work" I tried on another tv (my daughter's small Samsung HDTV) and it didn't work there as well.

Apple should clear this information on the box, otherwise we buy an item that does not fit. There's no clear information saying that the cable can only be used with HDTV and not with the "normal plasma tvs".

I would like to replace this item for the "composite cable" (that hopefully will work with the 42" tv) but I bought this item on 2nd Jan 2008 (at Amazon) so...... more than 30 days... so I can't simply "return" it.

I thought about selling it here (at Amazon) but I don't know if the cable has some kind of a problem as I could not see it "working fine" with my daughter's HDTV.

So........... I have lost USD 55,00 (49,00 + shipping) because now I have a product that does not fit on my tv and that I can't sell because I did not see it "working fine" before.

What should I do now? If Apple had a "clear box" with all information I would have bought the right cable.

Excellent - do your homework
This product is receiving an unfair rating simply because people aren't checking their TV compatibility before purchasing. Who does that? Would you go and buy a part for your car before checking to see if it's the right one for your vehicle? I ordered this cable through Amazon, it came in record time (3 days, and that was with free shipping), it was several dollars less than I could get it for locally, and it works perfectly. Of course, my TV had the right outputs and I made certain of that before ordering.

works as advertised
This cable does what it says. Connects to the stereo, and connects to the component inputs on my HD TV. I have downloaded a movie from Itunes, and it does play fine off my ITouch. No HD video, however, and sound comes thru in 2 channel stereo only, unless I did something wrong.
