Date: 2008-03-28 Samsung HLT6187SAX 61 inch DLP has good pic The picture is incredible in 1080 and 720, also very good when watching analog resolutions. The case and frame itself makes this a nice looking TV, and the screen itself is very non-reflective which means there's no problem if you watch it in a room with bright lights or one with windows behind you. There are a number of inputs and outputs including HDMI, optical audio, component, A/V, composite, antenna, PC, serial, and USB. The inputs and outputs are offset to the right and at an angle, facilitating easier hookups and access. The universal remote that comes with it is nice, long and thin. Unfortunately I have not been able to get this to work with our Dish Network box using the codes they show in the book (anyone get this to work with Dish Network?). The HD tuner works well, showing info (if available), which HD mode it is in, etc. Switching between sources is easy. I only wish that the menu scroll speed could be quickened. If you have many sources that you switch between the scrolling can be annoying. There are too many options to go into here. You can change pretty much anything, from when the blue power light is on (on when the tv is on, on when it's off, never on) to screen position, noise reduction, V-chip settings, etc. I have yet to try the PC connection with my PC, and the game modes they have available. Same with the USB port. There are a few downsides. The audio is not the best on this, but most of us probably use a receiver or amp system. If not it's not bad, just not great. When watching things with lots of action and at 720 or 1080 occasionally there is some pixelation as the display tries to keep up with the action. It's not often enough to be really bothersome and my wife can't see it at all when it happens. This seems to be a common thing that people mention with these DLP's running with the LED instead of the lamp. The other thing that bothers me the most is when watching non-widescreen analog video. There doesn't seem to be a proper screen size mode to proportionally stretch the screen for the whole 16:9 width. Sure, you can watch it in 4:3 with the bands on the side but our last tv was able to proportionally stretch the edges but keep the middle in the proper ratio so it was possible to watch 4:3 video stretched across the whole screen without noticed people's faces stretched. Zoom1 seems to be the only alternative outside of using native 4:3. Overall it's a very good tv, especially for the price. It renders video very nicely, has many features, many customizable options, and looks good. If you plan on watching a lot of HD then this is the TV for you. If you do a lot of mixing of HD, SD, and 4:3 and analog and don't mind watching it stretched or in native 4:3 with the sidebars then this tv is also for you. Date: 2008-03-28 Amazing Simply a stunning TV. Caught it at $1700 about a week ago. After some fine tuning with the picture, I couldn't be more impressed. The delivery guy stared at it in awe after turning it on. It's beautiful and plays Xbox 360 games flawlessly. The DNLe technology tones down the grittiness of standard broadcasts, making them less of an eyesore, and the contrast and color range are amazing. My only gripe is that the viewing angle is slightly limited, but this is only if you're sitting close to the set. Sitting farther than eight feet should present no problems. Without a doubt, this is the best TV you can buy at this price. (Another thing to note is that these sets don't look very good in regular stores. The pictures have't been tuned so they have a gray, washed-out look to them. They look so much better after tuning.) Date: 2008-03-27 61in Samsung Slim LED 1080p DLP HDTV Truly an unbelievable TV. Lightweight, easy to set up, awesome picture. Excellent picture for digital signals, even when using cheap rabbit ears! I like the remote and the interface is pretty intuitive. Easy to switch between input sources. Was impressed by the delivery service and fast turn around for the purchase to installation. Like most big screens, the input/output panel is located on the side, so you have to either rotate the TV or get behind it to connect wiring. Date: 2008-03-26 Let's be honest In the world of flat screen HDTV there are 3 choices, plasma, LCD and projection. The problem with projection is you can't hang it on the wall. Bottom line is that a larger percentage of the LCD and plasma end up sitting on something, not hung on a wall. Samsung has got projection depth down to under 15" and delivers a picture that is every bit as good if not better than LCD or plasma. I have a wall unit that is 60" wide and 17" deep. This TV fits with about 2 1/2" on each side and is recessed from the front by over 2", looks almost built in and several people have made that comment. I wanted "big" and didn't want to spend a huge amount of money. The sound is adaquate but with the money I saved over the other types (at least $3,500) I can afford a really nifty system. Thank you Amazon, great price, awsome product, professional delivery at a price the the retailers can't touch. Date: 2008-03-26 For size, price, and quality - this is your set! This set is fantastic for its huge size, light weight, great picture quality, and totally affordable price. If you are in the market for a large HDTV, look no further. The Good: Many inputs for all output display types from HDMI to Component to VGA. The picture on HD channels looks really good out of the box, and with calibration it looks even better. No motion blur during fast action. 3d capable with tridef accessory for stereo 3d gaming and watching 3d movies. Light weight and slim with a small bezel for a sleek look. Many ways to adjust the set's picture to calibrate it manually. Overall good viewing angles for a DLP. My Xbox 360 games never looked so good!!! The not-so-good: Shabby casing material. This is not a super solid set. Minor geometry issues reported like bowing (my set's geometry is perfect). SSE effect(rainbow dots) in large highlighted areas. Can be minimized with calibration, some may not even notice it. Poor sound from speakers. Easy fix, hook this up to a sound system! This TV isn't perfect, but if you want the truth then here it is: no HDTV is perfect! Every brand and each technology (DLP, Plasma, LCD) has it's own set of flaws. *With all things considered this WAS the best product on the market for size and price. *I said WAS for a reason: The only thing to consider now is that the new generation of this set is now available. Samsung now has new 61", 67", and 72" models available. To me all this means is that the price of this 6187s is going to go down more and more making it an even better choice! I've had this TV for over a month, and I don't regret my decision at all. This is truly a great HDTV.
