In general a good buy
I recently purchased the Samsung HLT6176S with the stand. In general, it was a good buy.

Purchase experience:
- Good price from Electronic Express via Amazon.
- Excellent shipping
- Stand came via UPS (not bad)
- TV came via FedEx (very very good service)
- Fedex guy gave me a hand, delivered TV inside my house
- Battery backed UPS arrived sooner
- HDMI cables arrived sooner
- The warranty has not yet arrived (but they are still on schedule)

The TV itself:
Pros:
- Worked right off the box
- Minimal setup
- Not as heavy as I had expected
- Good HD (only using component so far, HDMI and VGA to be connected)
- Good color

Cons:
- Start up time is longer than I'd expect
- Sometimes there is a khrrr khhrr sound during start up.
Then a familiar ding dong (part of the start up
process I guess). Then the TV syncs to the input signal
- Viewing TV at an angle looks ugh (expected)
- Picture "bowing" exists, and while it is not irritating,
I see it as a definite minus point.

Recommendation:
- Get a battery backed surge protected UPS (typically
around $90 US)
- Get a 4 year warranty

Enjoy the television if you choose to get it.

Great price, great TV!!!
Wow, am I glad I decided to buy this TV.

I saw the 56" version at CC, and the brightness and clarity of the picture were noticeably superior to the other sets. The 61" has the same great picture, and I got it for only about $150 more with shipping. So far, HDTV and DVDs look awesome, and I haven't even hooked up an upconverting DVD yet. The sound is just fine for now, until I get a home theater system hooked up. The screen was not bowed at all, as some people have experienced--either they have fixed this problem or I got lucky.

As for the DLP v. plasma debate--I had plenty of room, didn't need to wall-mount (where to put the cable box and DVD player?), and didn't want to pay $1000-1500 more for plasma, then worry about burn in every time a 4:3 commercial comes on. DLPs may be obsolete in a few years, but for now, mine works great, and was comparatively cheap. Case closed.

Samsung Ultraslim DLP
Received the item without a problem, a very quick ship. Installed into its new home without a probelm.

The placement of board is very good and makes it very easy to access all wires. The menu was a little complicated to get through but instructions were clear and step by step.

Very good picture after a short warm up period. Sound could have more deapth but once attached to surround system, its great.

Wonderful Picture
The picture quality is outstanding. I'm a bit less than satisfied on the sound quality however. When turning the volume up to the 20's there's a distint rattle. I do however have a home theater that compensates quite well. Overall the machine is great.

great picture quality with minor bowing, but i think i got a lemon
I ordered the TV and called EGL as soon as their tracking system said it was in town and was able to get a saturday morning delivery, so I got the set a few days earlier then scheduled.

The first day I watched some upscaled DVDs and games at 1080p with my xbox360 with vga cable, as well as some over the air HDTV. The picture qualtiy, back levels, and shadow details were great. Upon close inspection my set did have a little bit of bowing, I didn't exactly measure but perhaps .25" inward bowing on the sides. There was also a little bit of rotation to the picture, one corner was perhaps .5" higher than the other. Both of these things were only noticeable when watching letterboxed materials, and when inspecting from 1 foot away. From my couch 12 feet away, the rotation is not noticeable at all, and the bowing only if i really try hard (at first i thought maybe it was my glasses). When watching 16:9 material, the bowing and rotation is not noticeable at all at any distance. Lines and menu seem straight.

The OTA antenna reception strength went beyond my expectations. It has a built in antenna amplifier option and it actually works very, very well.

This TV would have been a keeper for me, but on the second day the TV started making high pitched buzzing noises when turning on the set. My best guess is that the ballast was having a hard time lighting the lamp and was taking 1 - 3 buzzy attempts before successfully turning on the set. The sounds are definitely abnormal, it sounds like an angry bee is stuck in there. After the set finally turns on, the picture is as good as it was before, only now a low pitched, low amplitude buzzing sound accompanied. In itself this buzzing doesnt sound really bad, if it was like that the first day i might have thought it was a weird but "normal" quirk.

I expected the geometry issues, and it didnt turn out to be a problem for me, but the unlucky set I received is causing me to second guess my choice. Previously I had been pretty sold on Samsungs DLPs, but I think I'm going to try out a Toshiba and see how it compares.

*edit* It turns out Toshiba is exiting the DLP market and it looks like they've already discontinued their current DLP line.. maybe that wouldn't be the best choice after all.
