Samsung DLP Is "SO CHOICE"
My husband suggested we purchase this tv. It's so amazing to view with our DVD's and also HD. We've been watching HD now almost exclusively as we get so spoiled.

Non- HD viewing is also fine. I'm not too much of a picky person on that, but I cannot wait for the day when all TV is high def.

Anyway, the Samsung is well worth the money. We've had ours 8 months now.

Wide Viewing angle. PIP Not worth it
The picture on the TV is as good as any DLP, and better than most. It is brighter and seems to pop out at you in the stores. You can tone this down at home, and end up with a very nice pic. It also has a wider viewing angle than any other DLP. This is very noticable when you see it side by side with other brands in a large store. You will appreciate the wide viewing angle a lot. All new Samsungs have this wide angle.

The difference between this Samsung and the 5687 or any 87 vs 88 model is that the 88s have PIP, TV Guide and a cable card slot. The PIP is rendered nearly useless by lack of a swap button on the remote. You have to go through the menu to swap the pictures, and then you cannot swap some sources. This makes it nearly impossible to use PIP to channel surf in one window while waiting for commercials to end in the show you were watching. You cannot easily switch back and forth. This completely negates PIP.

Most people are moving away from cable cards, and towards a DVR/Tivo, which also come with a TV Guide. Save your money and get the cheaper 87 model. The difference will just about buy a DVR.

No Comparison available
I received my HL-S5688W on 6/19/06. After four hours of integrating it into my setup I turned it on for my first run. Out of the box the factory settings were horrible (100 brightness/sharpness, etc..) but once I used my DVD Essentials and set it properly it really began to show it's stuff.

I turned on Star Wars III in HD from HBO and was just awe-struck. My wife and I sit 7 feet from the unit and it performed absolutely flawless without any distortion or problems.

Menu's are easy to use, massive number of connectors are nice, and shape/size can't be beat for this type of model. It runs very quiet and puts off little heat. Overall I haven't been able to find another comparable model made by any manufacturer. Get one quickly since they are only making a limited number of the 88's...
