Date: 2007-01-31 the neighbors are gonna hate me. i bought my first home-theater-in-box about 2 years ago, and while the yamaha system that i purchased sounded pretty good at first, i eventually realized it didn't have the punch that i was looking for. poor treble reproduction, weak bass and lack of crisp, clear front channel sound prompted me to jump back into the market. after lots of research (both online and in stores), i chose the sony HT-DDW900. not only is the price fantastic for the features provided, but it arrived about a month early after being on backorder...i couldn't have been more pleased! rich, clear room-filling sound with a solid range of customizable sound options and a powered subwoofer make this a great system at any price. the only negative that i can find is that the supplied wire is a bit thin, so i upgraded to 16 gauge, but that's really just a nitpick. very highly recommended. side note: since i ordered my system, a buddy of mine bought the same one and is equally pleased! Date: 2007-01-30 Great for Small/Mid Size Room This was my first Home Theatre purhase to go along with my Samsung 40 inch LCD, Scientific Atlantic Cable Box/DVR, PS2, and DVD player. You really cant get better sound within this price range (300 when I bought it). Since it was my first Home Theatre I encountered some problems during the installation. Its DEFINITELY not idiot proof. The manual is horrible! For Audio/Video newbies like myself it doesnt do a good job explaining step by step procedures. But after speaking with customer service (which by the way was amazing) and re-reading the other reviews here on Amazon, I was able to enjoy the wonderful sound this set has to offer. Date: 2007-01-30 Terrific Unit Had done some research on home theater systems. Just finished my basement and got a big screen tv. Did not want to spend a lot of money, but after reading the reviews on this system decided to purchase. It was a great deal, on sale plus free shipping. Received unit in 5 days ( had ordered over a holiday weekend) Did not use the wire that was provided but purchased 16 guage instead. Set up was easy, auto calibration was excellent, not like my other home theater system, only problem we had was receiving FM stations. Purchased a FM antenna and put it in the attic. The only problem was trying to preset stations. A little difficult but finally was able to achieve all the stations we wanted. The sound is terrific, do not need anything louder. The room it is installed in is 17' by 26'. Would highly recommend this unit. Had tried to check it out at both Best Buy and Circuit City but all the stores in the state were out of them also none in the warehouses. Guess that was a good sign. Terrific unit for the money, highly recommend. Date: 2007-01-28 great for the price Sound is great..even with original speaker wires...we had to get different wires..not long enough for our needs...It's true that you have to turn the volume almost all the way...seems like something isn't right about that...but once I changed the levels on the speakers...it sounds fine..True you will have to use coaxal or optical connections...so if you just bought a hdmi cable thinking that's all you need...sorry... My husband never hooked up anything like this before...so it took him awhile to get it connected and working. Great bass quality...made our kids jump the first time it kicked in during a movie...again...make sure you set your speaker levels and subwoofer level using the remote all explained in the manual...not too hard to figure out.. Great value...very happy with it! Goes great with our Samsung 46 inch dlp tv... Date: 2007-01-27 Very good system for the price... I purchased this system to replace a Panasonic all in one home theatre that died. I originally wanted another all in one system but decided to purchase the sound separate from the DVD. It was a good choice because I was able to purchase a better DVD player than the all in one systems were offering. The hdmi passthrough works fine, both my DVD and hd cable box have optical audio, so I was able to use the optical audio instead of regular RCA jacked cables. I renamed and reassigned some of the inputs. It simply works great. No real problems with instructions. The subwoofer thumps! * Price is subject to change. |
