Cheap and Sensacional !!
If you are looking for a little system with 2 HDMI inputs this is your choice. Sound is very clear and powerful. I connected my PS3 and sound is awesome.

Great sound system
Its nice to have the 2 HDMI ports through the receiver but I wish it would pull the audio signal off of the cable so I dont have to connect my PS3 also with audio composite cables. It worked seamlessly after I figured out how to set up each individual component.

I think when i first got it the video source for video 2 was set defaultly to another source than what the video 2 input was cause I wouldn't see the video of my pc when i was on video 2.

Good receiver for price
This receiver is a solid, if not spectacular, performer. My room is about 19x17, and the sound fills it only at the higher levels. The sound is crisp, and the receiver plays all the usual surround sound effects (e.g., Dolby, DTS, PL II, etc.). The subwoofer is powered and adequate. A few cons:

- I will log another complaint about the poor manual.

- The receiver does not have a mode that plays surround if the source is in surround, but then defaults to a decoded surround (say Pro Logic II) if the source is not in surround. So, if you are watching TV, you can program the receiver to play the source's sound (whether surround, stereo, or mono). Or, you can program to get decoded surround (e.g., PL II) on all stations. However, you will then get PL II on an HD channel and not the true source surround. This is a little annoying as I'm a channel surfer.

- The remote control must be aimed directly at the receiver to function. Most of the time, this would probably not a problem for people with good universal remotes.

On the pro side, for the price, you can't beat it.

As an aside, upon arrival, the subwoofer did not work. I first call Sony and they said to send the subwoofer at my expense (about $50) to their plant in Texas for repair. To boot, they also wanted the receiver to make sure the problems wasn't in that component. Unsatisfied, I called Amazon, who quickly sent out a new system with no questions asked. Upon arrival, I switched subwoofers. The new subwoofer worked fine, and I sent the newly arrived package back to Amazon with no new expenses to me.

I'm A Traditionalist..
Over the years I have purchased many "rack" items for my component stereo systems including quadraphonic 8-track (now I lost ya). I always thought you had to build a good sound system based on buying the best components you could afford.

Now I am buying a "theater-in-a box" for my 50" HD plasma. Very easy to hook up and configure. Sounded very good. After I purchased the preferred digital cables (HDMI, Digital Coaxial) I could not believe the quality and the power of the sound generated from this unit. It's tremendous!! Great drive on the sub!!

Strongly recomended for the price.

Any body need a reverb unit or an equalizer??

Disappointing
This home theater package, despite being attractively priced considering its apparent functionality, is ultimately very disappointing.

I'm new to HDTV and HDMI so I didn't know as much as I needed in order to make a fully informed decision. I have a Sony Bravia XBR3, Oppo upconverting DVD player, Scientific Atlanta HD box and Nintendo Wii game console.

This unit only offers pass-through video, so you have to have separate video connections from the receiver to the TV for each type of input (HDMI, component, etc.). For the price difference between this and other receivers that will convert to a single connection, you'll pay in extra cabling costs.

The HDMI on this unit carries video only - no sound - so you have to have separate cabling to carry audio from your DVD or cable to the receiver, and then from the receiver to your TV. Again, major inconvenience and lots of additional connections.

The manual for this unit is beyond terrible. I'm astounded that an international consumer electronics firm like Sony would provide a manual as difficult to use and just indirect as this one. For example, there was a hum when watching TV that turned out was because the speakers while looking identical are not - some are shielded and some aren't. Nothing in the manual about this.

There are probably just enough HDMI and component connections for the basic user like myself.

Plus side is that there is no DVD player with this, so I can use my own.

Given a chance to do this again, I would spend a little extra on a unit that converts signals to a single output.
