Tripp Lite's IEEE-1394b, or FireWire 800 cables, are the latest in FireWire technology, with data transfer speeds up to 800Mbps, twice the speed of original FireWire. The 9-pin to 6-pin FireWire 800 - FireWire cable (also known as a "bilingual" cable) will connect a 6-pin FireWire (1394a) device to a 9-pin FireWire 800 (1394b) port on a computer, or it will connect the 6-pin FireWire port on a computer to a 9-pin FireWire 800 device (FireWire 800 devices can achieve FireWire 800 speeds only when connected to a FireWire 800 port). These cables are 100% compatible with Apple FireWire, Sony iLink, and all other IEEE-1394b peripherals.

Extremely poor fit on 9 pin side
This was my first Firewire cord, and I suspect the same is true of many of the positive reviewers here. Like them, I was originally very happy with this cord. It worked, and the price was fantastic. However, I noticed that the 9 pin connector was always very loose, and never "clicked" in place, even though I pushed the cord as far as it would go. My initial thought was "Boy, Firewire really has a bad connector design."

Well, after buying another Firewire cord from a more reputable source (LaCie) I discovered that Firewire cables are actually incredibly secure! There is just something very wrong with the design of these cords! As far as I can tell, the connector is a bit too short on these cables, and thus they can't be inserted far enough to engage the mechanism that locks them into place (i.e. the 'click' you feel when plugging in a USB cable, or a better made Firewire cable, it turns out).

As such, I recommend users stay far away from these cables. Sure, they're cheap, but if your cable comes out accidentally without you having properly unmounted your external drive, it's highly likely that your hard drive will be corrupted. It's worth it to buy good cables. Your data is worth a lot more than the few dollars saved by going with a cut-rate cable company.

Yup. It's a cable.
Not much to review on a cable. It works. It was long enough.

Great, Affordable Firewire Solution
I have a MacBook Pro and I got tired of trying to find this cord in stores - everywhere I went it was $40 or more. This was a much more affordable and just as quality and effective fix to my firewire needs.

Works perfect
I needed the cable. I ordered it, it arrived, and it has been working as advertised since then.

Less Than Tight Connection - 800 End
The Cable is a little loose in the back of the iMac 27". If you're having trouble connecting your device check to see that you 800 end hasn't started working it's way out. But once connected securely in place it works fine.
