Date: 2006-02-22 Pending Further Experience...... Just had my 52" Toshiba delivered this past Saturday. Researched the whole DLP thing for about nine months before making the purchase decision. I made mutiple trips to Circuit City, Best Buy and at least one trip to Sears to do comparison shopping on prices and various brands available. Read reviews on these types of tv's ,but had not read the Amazon.com consumer reviews. Some of the Amazon reviews have me a bit worried; especially the ones about the bulbs burning out or failing prematurely. So I did buy the extended warranty/service plan for a reason. My experience so far has been good. The basic cable picture varies from good to very fuzzy, but hopefully that will be corrected this weekend with the installation of a digital HD cable box with DVR. Seems to be too much lag in tv channel changing mode with the remote compared to the channel changer on my old cable box. I bought the matching stand and the tv fit like a glove as the delivery guys set it in place. It complements the tv very well. I assembled the stand myself and it took me about three hours on and off just taking my time and trying to figure out some of the confusing directions. Unfortunately for the price, the stand seems cheap in construction. The first night of ownership i left the set on all night to let it burn in; in a manner of speaking. Not sure if this will make a difference down the road. So far the on screen menu and the component hookups i.e. vcr , PSII , and surround stero system have been easy to figure out without much reference to the manual. Overall I am somewhat pleased with my purchase. I had to wait for a Best Buy drop in price sale and even then on a purchase of this size im not sure ive gotten my money's worth. Maybe that will be better determined after six months use. Date: 2006-02-14 Breath Taking I took 6 months to research everything that was out there. DLP, LCD, Plasma, etc. I viewed every model from 40" to 72". The winner - my 62 inch Toshiba. The picture is so clear that it is truly breath taking. Watching sports is a real trip, but even TV shows have a different quality. Be sure to sign up for HD stations because this will really take advantage of your set's qualities. Another good feature of this TV is the fact that you can take the flash memory chip out of your digital camera and play slide shows on your TV. The only questionable feature of this TV is that the sound system does not match the picture quality. Of course, I didn't find any sound system with the other models which were really outstanding either. By the way, I see prices of $2300 for this model and $2900 for the HD model. But if you shop around you can do much better. I've seen this model for $1800 and the HD model for $2100. Date: 2006-02-13 What a way to rip you off!! I ordered my Toshiba 46HM84 DLP TV in January of 2005 and the lamp bulb TB25-LMP died February 12th of 2006. Now I have a $2000 projection noise box. The replacement bulb is $200 and takes two to three week for delivery. I am disappointed in the fact that the manufacturer (Toshiba) and Amazon are willing to do nothing to remedy the situation. I did not buy the "extra" warranty thus amazon claims no responsibility. In my opinion if they are aware they sold defective items amazon should be willing to make amends with its disgruntalled customers. Are they? Of course not. When buying anything from amazon.com (Which I will never do again!) you had better purchase the warranty or you are looking for headaches down the road. In reading several reviews I have noticed that once you purchase your item and they receive thier money amazon doesn't care about your satisfaction anymore. Neither does the manufacturer Toshiba. Two companies I will personally avoid doing business with again. Consider yourself warned!! Date: 2006-02-01 The worst TV I ever bought The brand new Toshiba 46" DLP only lasted 40days ( less than 120 hours of viewing time) , and projector lamp went out. I have waited for more than two weeks, still can not locate the replacement lamp from Toshiba. The service center told me that it might take another two weeks or so. Like everyone here, I have a dead Toshiba sitting in my living room. The 15 years old 13" Sanyo is going to help me through the Super Bowl. Date: 2005-12-20 Replacement Lamp Not Available I purchased this TV from Amazon in December 2004. On December 17, 2005, the projector lamp went out on the TV. I contacted Toshiba and was told that replacement lapms would not be available until at the earliest January 3, 2006. I searched the internet for every available option and all local TV service companies and have all been told the same thing, the Replacement Lamp for this TV is on back order from Toshiba. I called Toshiba back and after a very heated discussion, the Toshiba rep admitted that the original lamps were defective. It is obvious that there have been a widespread failure of these lamps that is why there is a shortage and are on back order everywhere. So basically, I have an unworkable $2,500 HDTV sitting in my lving room during the Christmas and New Years Holiday. Considering I have purchased a XBox 360 for my son for Christmas, created family DVDs to give away for Christmas presents to family members, the College Bowl Season and the end of the NFL Season, I will not be able to watch or use my $2,500 TV at all for up to three weeks. This is totally unacceptable in my opinion. Toshiba should have realized the upcoming issues with these TVs once they started failing and should have recalled them immediately upon recognition. I have been a loyal Toshiba customer but right now I am disgusted with Toshiba and will never purchase another Toshiba product. I have nothing good to say about this TV or Toshiba products after this experience.
