Date: 2007-06-29 DLP TAX Be prepared to buy a new lamp each year. I call it the DLP Tax. Toshiba refused to admit these bulbs only last 2-3000 Hrs. I have spoken to Authorized service center, they admit a new lamp each year is to be expected. Date: 2007-06-17 not bad but expected more Purchased this brand new and the lamp burned out in 3 months which was replaced under warranty and the lamp went out again 18 months later. The speakers are poor quality, they crack and make popping sounds. Toshiba claimed they were the signal but there is no popping or cracking sound when I play the same movies through my stereo. I'm just putting up with the popping sound since the sound quality is much better through the stereo anyway. The picture quality is great but I expected the lamp to last longer and expect better service when you call to say there is a sound problem...they just dismissed my complaint about the speaker quality. Date: 2007-03-20 Bought in late 2003, lamp still works for me Outstanding quality and picture. Great TV for me. My lamp bulb is still good especially after I watch average of 4+ hours/day, and I have heard of lamp bulbs burning out before they reached their life 2000 hours vs (6000-8000 hours). However, I also heard if you don't have your TV plugged into a surge protector/battery backup unit, for some reason, the life of your bulb will decrease significantly in life. For the power surges it's understandable, but why a battery backup I have no clue, maybe there's a reason the fan remains on for a 10-20 seconds after you turn off the TV, to ensure the lamp does not overheat (guess the high heat may attribute to reduced life cycle). Anyway, I did buy a battery backup/surge protector in the very beginning and happy to say my TV has lasted over 3 years without lamp replacement. And yes I had the lamp mode to low-power so that can help as well. By the way I think my next purchase is definently going to be a 40-50" LCD HDTV. That way I don't have to worry about lamp replacement. Cheers! Date: 2007-01-25 Great TV for Home Theater Our family has enjoyed the 62HM95 model for a little over a year now & have had no problems @ all. I have a friend who has had their 46" model for just under a year and has already had to replace the bulb twice @ no charge. He was however told that the warranty starts all over again because of the bulb replacement. Not sure if he got that in writing as the bulbs are around $149 a pop. Love the clarity & crispness of the colors on High Def. Love this HDTV but must have cinema audio from receiver even when watching Sat TV. Big Sound & Bigger Picture. Date: 2007-01-07 Great Picture - BUT DO NOT BUY IT! The Toshiba DLP televisions will be the demise of their reputation! They have a great picture but the bulb lasts less than a year! My 52HM84 is two years old and I have replaced the bulb TWICE! At $200 a shot, this is ridiculous. When I contacted Toshiba Customer Service they acknowledged a problem with the 2005 bulbs, and extended the warrantee to two years, but "claim" there is no problem with the 2006 TVs. When I asked him if replacing the bulb every year was what he considered "no problem" he read a prepared statement and said he could do nothing for me. DO NOT BUY THIS TV or any other Toshiba Product! Sites like this should make Toshiba pay for flipping their nose up at poor Customer Service. SPREAD THE WORD!
