User Submitted Zenith D52WLCD 52" LCD Projection HDTV-Ready TV Reviews Date: 2008-08-05 zenith D52WLCD 52" Only lasted three years. Blue Screen- no support from Zenith or LG... STAY AWAY from all LG products. Date: 2008-01-28 Tax write off? I loved this TV when I got it. Thirteen days after the warranty expired, the lamp burned out. I called customer service in Huntsville, AL and they agreed to extend the warranty to cover the lamp replacement. I was impressed enough to overlook the fact that the 'authorized service center' took two weeks to replace the lamp and did not turn off the "replace lamp" message when the TV is turned on. A few months after the extended warranty expired, I got the infamous "blue streak". So far it is not that objectionable most of the time but I understand it just gets worse. I have two options; sell it to someone for a few hundred bucks or give it to Goodwill. What is a reasonable value to claim for the charitable contribution since some of you have gone that route? This 3yr old TV is complete junk from my point of view, but short of selling it, I do not know how to value this. Date: 2007-10-13 Class Action Lawsuit Against Zenith I purchased a Zenith/LG D52WLCD TV serial # 411-74060476 for $2,595.84 on 7/7/2004. I got a little less than three years of usage out of it (I'm in the Marines so most of that time I was away) b/f I started getting the green screen. Since the 'Replace Lamp" indicator was coming on, I did just that last night. Didn't work. I come to find out today that Zenith was actually acquired by LG in 1993 and that my problem is actually being caused by a design flaw with the "Light Engine" which apparently causes the thing to fail after approximately 3,000 hours of use. As far as Zenith customer service goes, I'm having the same problem as the rest of you. So the question is what to do. Well, we caan post these messages here on the internet which will certainly help the next poor sucker that comes along who actually has the foresight to check it out, but it doesn't help us recover the thousands of dollars and hours of time that we've wasted on Zenith trying to get these issues resolved. So here's what I propose: I would like to get a list started of everyone who has experienced these problems with Zenith and file a class action lawsuit against them. I'm by no means an expert at consumer law, but I do know that these laws are in place to protect the consumer from companies like Zenith that continue to sell products that they know or should have known to be defective. Second, I believe there may be some 'bait and switch' issues here. We all thought we were buying a quality Zenith product like the ones we grew up with only to find out, after the fact, that we actually bought a crappy Korean LG product. Last I would encourage everyone on this thread to file a complaint with their state consumer protection board, as I have done, and after that file one with the BBB and federal trade commission. Zenith may have gotten away with stealing my $2,595.84 but I fully intend to make sure that doing so costs them at least $1 million+ in legal/litigation fees. If you have bought a Zenith product and have been burned please contact me with your information. Once we get enough people on board to file a class action, I think we'll have no trouble at all finding a consumer rights law firm willing to take this on for a percentage. The goal will be compensatory and punitative damages as well as petitioning the government to revoke Zenith license to do business in the United States. Date: 2007-02-16 WARNING: DO NOT BUY ZENITH !!! Prior to buying the TV we had a 27" CRT TV that lasted 19 years. So we decided to buy a new TV since it was getting old. So in 1/17/2004 we bought a 40" Projection TV (R40W46) with a 2 years extended warranty. The TV has been performing great and we have been very happy with it until just last week when we noticed "blue shadows" all over the screen. After looking over the manual and adjusting the convergence, no success. To fix this TV outside of its warranty will cost over $1,000 dollars, and with prices on TV's dropping it makes no sense to send it in for repair. It has basically become a disposable TV. We are very disappointed that our TV has only lasted 3 years. I'm sending it to Goodwill. I'm very disappointed that Zenith will not stand behind their products. My only mistake was not researching Zenith TVs prior to buying since I had full faith in the brand. I found other people on the internet with the same exact problem !! I'm sorry to say this was my last Zenith TV. Date: 2007-02-15 Last Zenith Ever Same problem. I have had my Zenith for about 18 months. 2 large yellow spots have appeared and are getting bigger. I contacted Zenith and they are unwilling to do anything about this even though it is an obvious design flaw. The TV is now worthless and I'll be putting it out on the street for the trash collectors to come pick up. I've had Sony products for years with never a problem. This is my last Zenith or LG product.
